SYNOPSIS: The arms-for-hostages scandal cast a shadow over Ronald Reagan’s foreign policy. Jeane Kirkpatrick, the American ambassador to the United Nations at the time— dubbed “Reagan’s Athena,” was in conflict with Nora Astorga, Nicaragua’s deputy foreign minister who became that nation’s ambassador to the United Nations. The women, mocked as “Amazonian Bitches” by the delegates to this male-dominated organization, clashed ideologically as each tried to sway world public opinion. Their confrontations became legendary as they worked feverishly to prevail—each coming to respect the other before fate intervened.

Seeking the following:

NORA ASTORGA: Nicaragua’s Deputy Foreign Minister, beautiful, bright, in her 30s, possessed of a keen legal mind, once a guerrilla fighter and participant in the murder of General Pérez Vega, fiery, dedicated to freeing her country from the ravages of Somoza. At times a hellion, capable of having raving, screaming battles with Jeane. Very protective of Gonzalez. HISPANIC.

CARLOS GONZÁLEZ: ASTORGA’S aide, handsome, in his 30s, once a guerrilla fighter, wheelchair-bound, bright, a supportive assistant with a great sense of humor. Very protective of Nora. HISPANIC.

NANCY REAGAN: The First Lady, in her 60’s, very intelligent, volatile, controlling, opinionated, deeply in love with and protective of her husband, but obsessed with astrology.
