As You Like It Auditions

Theatre Under the Trees, DreamWrights’ touring Shakespeare company, will hold auditions for William Shakespeare's As You Like It on Tuesday, May 24th and Wednesday, May 25th, at 6 pm at DreamWrights. No advance preparation is required. Actors, singers, crew, and musicians are needed.

In Shakespeare’s As You Like It, Rosalind is banished from court by her heartless uncle, at the same time as Orlando is sent off by his brother. Rosalind, with the help of her cousin, Celia, and the jester, Touchstone, turns exile to the Forest of Arden into a lark full of merry misadventure, including tricking Orlando by taking on the guise of a young man. Arden is a forest already full of shepherds, lovers and Rosalind's banished father and his entourage, leading to a play full of both comic missed connections and heartfelt reunions.

This year, Theatre Under the Trees is planning its usual lively interpretation, leaving the play intact and emphasizing the comedy and language. Also included will be original music to the lyrics of the songs Shakespeare included in As You Like It, putting a modern rock spin on this classic. Musicians will pre-record music and may not be required to attend performances.

As You Like It will be directed by Michelle Denise Norton, founder and director of Theatre Under The Trees. Norton attended Northwestern University, and is a writer, artist and theatre professional. This is Theatre Under the Trees’ 18th summer of performances. All performances are free, although donations are gratefully accepted. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets are encouraged.
