A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE - Des Moines Community Playhouse

Auditions for Tennessee Williams' classic drama, A Streetcar Named Desire, will be held at the Des Moines Community Playhouse at 6:00 PM, Sunday, Nov. 30. All auditions are open to the public; no one is pre-cast. Questions about auditions should be directed to Robin Spahr,

A Streetcar Named Desire contains feature roles for 6 men and 6 women, ages 21 and up. Performances are Feb. 6-22, 2015. A Streetcar Named Desire is directed by Tom Woldt.

Williams' tragic story begins with the fragile Blanche DuBois, who has left her family plantation home and come to New Orleans to live with her sister, Stella, and brother-in-law, the animalistic Stanley. She quickly gets a gritty life lesson in the seamy, steamy underbelly of 1940s life in the French Quarter.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
