Civic Theatre Announces Auditions for the 25th Anniversary Production of “A Christmas Carol”

Allentown, PA -- Auditions for Civic Theatre of Allentown’s 25th Anniversary production of A Christmas Carol will be held on October 18, 20 and 21 at Civic’s 19th Street Theatre.

Auditions will be held as follows:

Saturday, October 18 for children in grades 1-4 at 12:00 pm*
Saturday, October 18 for children grades 5 and up at 2:30 pm*
Monday, October 20 for young adults and teenagers 16 and up at 7:00 pm

Tuesday, October 21 for adult actors at 7:00 pm

*Any teenager that wishes to audition for the role of an adult should attend the adult audition on the 21st..

Adults will be asked to do a cold reading from the script.

Children auditioning do not need to prepare anything specific although they may be asked to sing 8-16 bars, a cappella, of any Christmas song. If interested in a lead role, they will be asked to do a cold reading from the script.

Young actors and adults wishing to audition are asked to bring the following to the open call:

  • A recent picture of you. This does not need to be a professional headshot, but should clearly show your face.
  • A list of conflicts you will have from auditions to closing night, which is December 20, 2014. Rehearsals will begin in October.

Rehearsals will take place on weekday evenings and Sundays. The dates and times that actors are called for rehearsal vary depending on the size of the role. Children in ensemble roles (Urchins and Party Kids) will be double cast, and therefore called for fewer rehearsals. Most children will be called to 16 rehearsals or less. The weeks leading up to the performances will require the most rehearsals. No rehearsals will be held around the Thanksgiving holiday from November 26th through November 29th.

Based on the novella by Charles Dickens, Civic’s 2014 production of A Christmas Carol will be directed by Civic Artistic Director William Sanders, who adapted the script with Sharon Lee Glassman. “A Christmas Carol” is now in its 24rd year of delighting family audiences with the familiar story of love and redemption. Directed and by Civic’s Artistic Director, William Sanders, “A Christmas Carol” will play Civic’s Nineteenth Street Theatre from Friday, December 5th through Saturday, December 20st, with student matinees on the December 9, 10, 16 & 17th.
