Stacy Sullivan, Mark Nadler, Gabrielle Stravelli, and Stearns Matthews Among Winners of 2015 MAC AwardsStacy Sullivan, Mark Nadler, Gabrielle Stravelli, and Stearns Matthews Among Winners of 2015 MAC Awards
by Andrew Martin (New York City)

(3/29/2015) - From the Oscars to the Tonys, the Grammys to Emmys, awards ceremonies are always a hit-or-miss situation. Either the event is absolutely excellent or ends with spectators saying, 'Well, they'll do a better job with it next year.' The 2015 MAC Awards, presented by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs, and held once again this year at BB King's on West 42nd Street, absolutely fell into the former category. It was a splendid affair (albeit it's usual 3-plus hours) that was expertly directed by MAC President Lennie Watts.

BWW Review: SIGHT UNSEEN Looks Deeply Into the Emotional Complexities of Modern ArtBWW Review: SIGHT UNSEEN Looks Deeply Into the Emotional Complexities of Modern Art
by Shari Barrett (Los Angeles)

(3/28/2015) - SIGHT UNSEEN by Pulitzer Prize winner Donald Margulies opened on Broadway in 2004 and went on to win an Obie Award for Best New American Play, an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play, and brought Laura Linney a Theatre World Award and nominations for both the Tony and Drama Desk Awards. It centers on celebrated artist Jonathan Waxman who, despite immense popularity, yearns for something more in his life. His soul-searching leads him to visit an old girlfriend and former muse he selfishly dismissed over a decade before.

Back to East High: Revisiting the Cast of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL- Where Are They Now?Back to East High: Revisiting the Cast of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL- Where Are They Now?
by BWW News Desk

(3/28/2015) - It's been almost ten years since the Wildcats first crowded the halls of East High School, singing of a new start, the status quo, and of course, the big game. The first of three HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL movies debuted on January 20, 2006, quickly becoming the most successful Disney Channel Original Movie ever produced. Launching the careers of a then-unknown set of teenagers, lots has happened to the cast since the last film wrapped in 2008. Much of the cast has continued in the musical tradition of the trilogy, taking on various roles in other musicals on stage and screen. Later this Spring, Vanessa Hudgens will become the second of the group to make her Broadway debut, as the title character in Gigi. In honor of her big debut, BroadwayWorld is recapping you on what's been up with the rest of the gang since Senior Year!

BWW Reviews: Above the Fold! Pulsating NEWSIES Storms the PantagesBWW Reviews: Above the Fold! Pulsating NEWSIES Storms the Pantages
by Don Grigware (Los Angeles)

(3/28/2015) - In 1899 droves of newsboys from every borough of New York City banned together and went on strike against Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolph Hearst and other wealthy newspaper owners, in a crusade to save children from menial wages and physical abuse. This was a first, where uneducated street kids stood up to the big suits and won. In 1992 Disney created the movie Newsies that went on to become a humongous hit. In 2012 Harvey Fierstein, Alan Menken and Jack Feldman came to Broadway with a musical show they created based on the film. Under the Disney banner, the first national tour of Newsies is currently onstage at the Pantages. All I can say is run, don't walk, to purchase tickets. The Newsies ensemble pulsates from the moment the lights hit the stage. It will jolt you, fulfill you and make you jump for joy.

BWW Reviews: Handa Opera On Sydney Harbour's AIDA Combines The Timeless Story of Love and War With The Sydney SkylineBWW Reviews: Handa Opera On Sydney Harbour's AIDA Combines The Timeless Story of Love and War With The Sydney Skyline
by Jade Kops (Australia - Sydney)

(3/28/2015) - Giuseppe Verdi's AIDA, written to open the Khedivial Opera House in Egypt in 1871, proves its timelessness as Director Gale Edwards blends old and new worlds on the waterfront stage. With a 18meter tall partial ruins of the head of Nefertiti towering over Farm Cove, the original setting in Egypt has been retained but the line between classical and modern Egypt is blurred as ancient religion and traditional costumes sit alongside futuristic soldiers and military officers reminiscent of European World War I and World War II strategists.
