(4/10/2014) - The spectacular operas that grace the stage of the Met in New York come to The Ridgefield Playhouse through the power of high-definition broadcasts with exciting advantages: Exclusive behind-the scenes interviews with the stars and close-ups that capture the emotions of the cast. On Saturday, April 26, at 12:55 p.m., Music Director James Levine makes his long-awaited return to the Met podium to conduct Mozart's beloved opera, Cosi Fan Tutte, about testing the ties of love. The cast is filled with youthful Met stars: Susanna Phillips, Isabel Leonard, Matthew Polenzani, Rodion Pogossov and Danielle de Niese. Rossini's La Cenerentola will be Live in HD on Saturday, May 10, at 12:55 p.m., starring mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, singing her first Met performance of the Cinderella title role, and the high-flying tenor Juan Diego Florez, as her Prince Charming. A peerless pair of Rossini virtuosos, it's a vocal tour de force for mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and Juan Diego Florez. Alessandro Corbelli and Luca Pisaroni complete the cast, with Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi leading the effervescent score.

And for the first time, The Palace has given four awards: a $2,000 Grand Prize, a $500 Second Prize, a $250 Third Prize, and a new $150 Promising Young Artist award. This year's Grand Prize winner is Greenwich High School's Anna Black, the Second Prize winner is Darien High School's Alison Lui, the Third Prize winner is Fairfield Warde High School's Connor Levinson, and the Promising Young Artist is Ethan Riordan of Stamford.

Famous for his many starring roles including his defining performance along side Robert De Niro in the 1988 classic Midnight Run, Charles Grodin is the recipient of Emmy and Golden Globe Awards alike. A resident of Wilton, CT and a stellar member of the entertainment industry for more than 50 years, Grodin has a lot of wisdom and humor to share about his career as a celebrated actor, comedian, author and talk show host. He is also a natural storyteller who will share his journey through Hollywood on Saturday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. The Connecticut Press Club is giving Charles Grodin the Mark Twain award for humor. Ironically, Charles Grodin was born twenty five years to the day after Mark Twain passed away. (4/3/2014) - On the heels of the 75th Anniversary tribute to The Wizard of Oz at the Academy Awards, The Ridgefield Playhouse will follow suit by presenting the famed story for children of all ages on Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. & 2 p.m. In a musical adaptation of the classic 'The Wizard of Oz', the story will come to life for the young-at-heart. The songs featured in this beloved tale include 'Soup's On', 'Somewhere', 'Follow the Yellow Brick Road' and 'It's So Easy to be a Witch'. Doktor Kaboom will prove that science can be fun when the stage production Doktor Kaboom!, which cleverly blends the wonders of science with theatre, comes to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Wednesday, May 7, at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This event is ideal for grades 2 - 8.

(4/3/2014) - Due to popular demand, Puppets in Education (P.i.E.) at Stamford's Palace Theatre has added a second show at 1:00pm. The 3:00 show is now sold out. The Monkey Boys Productions (Go, Diego, Go Live!, SeaWorld Productions) offer the rare chance for kids to get hands-on training to create their very own puppet show. Kids will learn how to make a show both with professionally made puppets and with their own beloved stuffed animals. Space is very limited because of the direct interaction with the puppeteers so don't wait until Sunday to buy! Puppets in Education is a part of the highly successful Playtime at The Palace series which offers unique programming for children of all ages on Sunday afternoons.
