Southern Rep Theatre will be hosting WORK HARD! PLAY HARD!, a Fundraiser and silent auction to help fund "3x3," an inaugural new playwrights' series which will feature one-act original works by local writers. The event will be held at Il Posto Café, 4607 Dryades Street tonight, July 30, from 5pm-9pm.

The concept for 3x3 grew out of Southern Rep's monthly 6x6 Play Slam (six ten minute plays by six playwrights) which has given playwrights, directors and actors a place to explore new work for 2 years now. With 3x3 these eleven playwrights will take things a step further with each of them writing and developing a one-act play that will be produced by Southern Rep. The first three plays by Brian Sands, Jared Gore and Paul Werner will premiere at MidCity Theatre August 27 and 28.

We decided to "graduate" the core group of our 6x6 writers. They've been working in the 10-minute format for a while now and it is time to challenge them with a larger scope and with an opportunity to tell bigger stories. All proceeds from the WORK HARD! PLAY HARD! fundraiser will support 3x3 playwrights and productions in 2012-13. —Aimée Hayes, Producing Artistic Director
