The Jefferson Performing Arts Society will be presenting their second of three Summer Intensive Programs this summer, the musical Seussical Jr. Public Performances will be held: July 25-27th at the Christ Episcopal School Theater 80 Christwood Blvd. Covington, LA. Friday & Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 3:00pm.

JPAS' Summer Youth Musical Theatre Intensive Program provides a challenging and high-quality musical theatre education to students of the Greater New Orleans and Northshore area. The students at our summer theatre programs are challenged, encouraged and enriched through a loving and inviting environment. JPAS Summer Youth Musical Theatre welcomes kids and teens in grades 3-12 each summer.

In Seussical Jr. all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage, in a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold - not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

The production features the talents of Northshore campers grades 3-7 in the July Youth Musical Theatre Intensive.

The creative team includes direction by Lynne Bordelon, musical direction by Kimberly Hilliard, scenic design by Kristin Blatchford, costume design by Abbey Vitrano, sound design by Nicholas Frederick, and lighting design by Celeste Brown.
