How I Got Stuck at NYMF...

The New York Music Theater Festival can easily be considered a harbor for the freshest talents in musical theater. Over a period of several weeks, an astonishing number of musical productions are presented on vest pocket stages throughout New York City. As is often the case with harbors, there is a confluence of talent feeding into it. Not only is this talent from all over the nation, but it ranges from the youngest to the most experienced and they all converge on the city for this event.

Danny Bolero (Broadway's In The Heights), Mel Johnson Jr. (Broadway's The Lion King, Hot Feet, The Rink), Beth McVey (Broadway's Beauty and the Beast, 42nd Street, Nine), ANITA WELCH (Avenue Q National Tour), Tim Young (Broadway's Next To Normal) and EJ ZIMMERMAN (Avenue Q National Tour) will star in Riley Thomas' subway tuner STUCK in the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Riverside Theatre will present Meredith Wilson's "The Music Man" through March 18 at its Stark Mainstage theater. With direction and choreography by Vince Pesce, the production's cast includes Broadway stars Jennifer Hope Wills (Marian Paroo), Beth McVey (Eulalie Shinn), and J.B. Adams (Mayor Shinn). The musical also stars David Schmittou as Professor Harold Hill.

Goodspeed Musicals is re-imagining favorite Tin Pan Alley tunes with the new-fashioned musical comedy Hello! My Baby. The show from Goodspeed's 2011 Festival of New Artists will run through 27, 2011 at The Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, Conn., Goodspeed's home for developing new works. Goodspeed Musicals, the first two-time Tony Award winning theatre in the country has announced that the cast of Hello! My Baby will be led by Justin Bowen, who will play Mickey McKee, and Stephanie Koenig, who will play Nelly Gold/Ned O'Reilly. Kelly McCormick will play Frances Gold. Junior Tierney will be played by Carrington Vilmont of Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera and Goodspeed's Half a Sixpence. Stanford J. Tierney will be played by Dick Decareau, who appeared in Broadway's Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Raggedy Ann and Goodspeed's Li'l Abner and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Beth McVey will play Ethel Coots. Ms. McVey's Broadway credits include Beauty and the Beast, The Phantom of the Opera, Nine, 42nd Street, and Annie. Bert Coots will be played by Frank Root of Broadway's 42nd Street and Mack & Mabel as well as Goodspeed's George M!. Alex Viola will play Violet Gold.

On June 6, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum will celebrate 23 years of unique and influential contributions to the New York City cultural community with a gala event at Center 548, the former site of the Dia Art Center.

With a solidly funny book by Larry Gelbart and Bert Shevelove and a clever, under-appreciated score by Stephen Sondheim (It remains Broadway's only Best Musical Tony-winner with eligible music and lyrics that were not even nominated for Best Score.), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is one of the more dependable titles of musical theatre's standard repertoire.

Paul Vogt (Pseudolus) made his Broadway debut as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray and he replaced Harvey Fierstein in the Las Vegas production. Films include Garry Marshall's Valentines Day and Princess Diaries 2. Audiences know Paul from 'MADtv.' This is Paul's first Paper Mill Playhouse experience.

Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark S. Hoebee-Producing Artistic Director, Todd Schmidt-Managing Director) is proud to announce casting for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Directed by Mark Waldrop, with choreography by Vince Pesce, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum will run at the Millburn theater from March 16 through April 10, 2011. Family Week is March 16 to March 20 and during this period, children 18 and under receive half off the regular ticket price (certain restrictions apply). A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is generously supported by a grant from The Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was selected by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts as part of the American Masterpieces Series in New Jersey. American Masterpieces is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts.
