Luna Stage welcomes back Tony and Grammy nominee reg e gaines for a special performance and free workshop celebrating Black History Month.

Abstract Sax/A Suite in III Parts: An Evening of Musical Interpretations of the work of Grammy nominated lyricist reg e gaines, will be performed for one night only on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 7:30pm. Abstract Sax/A Suite in III Parts features the words and sounds of reg e gaines, accompanied by Calvin Gaines on Bass/Guitars and Mark Wilson on Piano/Synthesizer. Tickets are $15 ($10 Students and Seniors) and include an autographed copy of the reg e gaines' Abstract Sax. Tickets are available online at lunastage.org or by phone at 973-395-5551.

For the third consecutive year, reg e gaines will offer a free two-hour Poetry Theatre workshop on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2:00pm. reg will lead 10 aspiring actors, singers and poets through an open two-hour performance workshop. Attendance at the workshop is free and open to the public. No reservations necessary.

reg e gaines is a Tony Award nominated playwright (Bring in da Noise/Bring in da Funk), Grammy nominated lyricist, Heideman Award Finalist, and winner of the 2003 Downtown Urban Theater Festival's Best Play Award. reg's solo performance piece, The Last Celebrity, premiered at Art House Production, February 2013. It has since been produced in San Diego, Los Angeles, New York and New Jersey, and most recently during Black History Month 2014 at New Jersey City University, The Nuyorican Poets Café, The New Jersey Juvenile Correctional Facility and various branches of the Jersey City Free Public Library System. He is currently writing/producing the Hip-Hop musical FREE, scheduled for workshops/performances at University of Wisconsin-Madison and School of Excellence in South Bronx, Fall 2014. reg will return for his seventh season as Artistic Director of the 2015 New York City Downtown Urban Theater Festival.

Calvin Gaines has worked with ground-breaking Hip Hop legends such as Mc Lyte, UtraMagnetic Mcs, Stesasonics, Salt-N-Peppa, Audio Two, as well as some of the most celebrated and talented recording artists including; Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston and Destiny's Child.

Mark Wilson is a producer, writer and musician. He has worked with such celebrated recording artists as Destiny's Child, Brandy, Will Smith and Beyoncé.

For over two decades, Luna Stage has produced thought-provoking theatre that gives voice to emerging American playwrights and re-examines contemporary and classic plays that speak to our times. As producer, educator and innovator, Luna Stage is committed to collaborating with artists of multiple disciplines and community partners to illuminate the diverse perspectives of society.
