George Street Playhouse's 2016-17 season kicks off with Rob Urbinati's Mama's Boy, a chilling glimpse into the relationship between Lee Harvey Oswald and his mother, Marguerite, and the effects it may have had in the months leading up to that fateful November morning in Dallas. The play runs October 18-November 6, 2016, and will be directed by George Street Playhouse Artistic Director David Saint, celebrating his 20th season at the New Brunswick theatre.

Next up is Daddy Long Legs, November 29-December 24, 2016. This witty and winsome romantic musical, based on the classic novel by Jean Webster, has charmed audiences of all ages from New York to London. With book by John Caird (Tony Award winner for Les Miserables), and music and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Paul Gordon, the musical will be directed by George Street Playhouse Resident Artistic Director Michael Mastro.

American Son by Christopher Demos-Brown runs February 7-26, 2017. After Jamal's car is pulled over, his estranged parents rush to the police station looking for answers. This highly charged drama twists, turns and builds to an explosive conclusion. A recipient of the Laurents/Hatcher Foundation Award for a new play by an emerging playwright, American Son is certain to challenge assumptions and ignite conversations regarding recent events and the country's racial divide.

The hit off-Broadway comedy Bad Jews, by Joshua Harmon, is on stage March 21-April 9, 2017. Liam, a self-proclaimed "bad Jew" who may actually be an atheist, and his cousin Daphna wage a vicious, hilarious battle over who should inherit "Poppy's" Chai necklace. Jessica Stone will direct the show that has been called "the best comedy of the season" by The New York Times and "outrageously funny" by The Washington Post.

The season will conclude May 2-21, 2017, with a fifth play that will be announced at a later date.

In the 43 years since its founding, George Street Playhouse has become a nationally recognized theatre, presenting an acclaimed mainstage season while providing an artistic home for established and emerging theatre artists. Its leadership consists of Artistic Director David Saint, Resident Artistic Director Michael Mastro and Managing Director Kelly Ryman. Founded in 1974, The Playhouse has been well represented by numerous productions both on and off-Broadway - recent productions include the Outer Critics' Circle Best Musical Award-winner The Toxic Avenger; the Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Drama League nominated production of The Spitfire Grill; and the recent Broadway hit and Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning play Proof by David Auburn, which was developed at GSP during the 1999 Next Stage Series of new plays. In 2015, George Street Playhouse has been represented by two productions in New York: the recent Broadway production of It Shoulda Been You, and Joe DiPietro's Clever Little Lies, which opened off-Broadway in October. Both shows received their premieres at The Playhouse. In addition to its mainstage season, GSP's Touring Educational Theatre features three issue-oriented productions that are seen by more than 40,000 students annually. George Street Playhouse programming is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders through a grant award from the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund.
