On Monday, October 31, the award-winning Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company presents its annual fundraiser at Aleathea's Restaurant at the Inn of Cape May. Called "A Masked Gala," since the date is Halloween, costumes are encouraged, but domino masks will be distributed to those not in costume. ELTC is celebrating its 36th Season and will announce the plans for 2017.

The entertainment includes short scenes from horror and mystery plays and films, performed by James Rana, who is also the host for the evening, artistic director Gayle Stahlhuth, and technical director Lee O'Connor. Live music is once more provided by Chris Sooy and Lew London, and there will be a trivia contest.

James was in ELTC's recent production of "Dracula," and is currently writing a play about World War I, that will begin as a one-hour staged-reading at The Bickford Theater in March, directed by Eric Hafen. The full play will be produced in the fall of 2017, directed by Gayle Stahlhuth. ELTC has produced four world premieres written by James, including last season's "Huckleberry Finn." He has had roles in major television shows and films, and his theater work includes The Royal Shakespeare Company in England, and Pan Asian Rep in NYC. Gayle has produced about 100 different productions since becoming ELTC's artistic director in 1999. Currently, she portrays Minnie in "Biography," which she also directed. Lee is one of ELTC's popular readers for its "Tales of the Victorians," and has portrayed Sherlock Holmes in the radio-style versions produced by ELTC since 2004.

The evening begins at 5:30p.m. with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. At 6:00p.m. is dinner, and at 7:00p.m., the entertainment and the trivia competition begins. There is also a silent auction, the raffle for the Dream Vacation (tickets may be purchased in advance by contacting the office), and the recipient of the Historic Jackson Street Neighborhood Association Scholarship Fund will be announced.

Aleathea's Restaurant at the Inn of Cape May, at 7 Ocean Street, is once again graciously supporting ELTC's annual gala. Cost is $60, and reservations may be made by calling ELTC at 609-884-5898, or mailing checks to East Lynne Theater Company, 121 Fourth Ave., West Cape May, NJ 08204, or by visiting www.eastlynnetheater.org, under the NEWS heading. If ordering online, please send an e-mail to eastlynneco@.aol.com with the entrée selection: crab cakes, filet mignon, or vegetarian, and send a note stating the choices, when mailing a check.

All proceeds go to the not-for-profit East Lynne Theater Company to support the production season and educational outreach. Donations from those unable to attend will be gratefully received, and are tax-deductible. Those donating items for the silent auction may send them to the above address, or call the office at 609-884-5898 or e-mail eastlynneco@aol.com if they need to be picked up.

Meanwhile, ELTC's current production of "Biography" runs only through October 15. On Saturday, October 22 at 8:00p.m. is ELTC's final "Tales of the Victorians" with "Poe by Candlelight," featuring Gayle Stahlhuth, James Rana and Lee O'Connor, who performed last year. On Sunday, October 23 at 8:00p.m., is the silent Hitchcock classic "The Lodger" with Wayne Zimmerman accompanying on the organ. All take place at The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St., Cape May, where ELTC is in residence. Call 609-884-5898 for information and reservations, or visit the website.
