On Monday, August 11, Cape May Stage welcomes back the scintillating, Tony-nominated Karen Akers in "Time Flies," an eclectic evening of tunes by American composers.

Featuring classic standards by composers like Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim, Akers takes audiences beyond the expected with songs by artists like Cyndi Lauper and the songwriting duo of Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey. Using upbeat, witty songs to show off her precise comic timing, Akers conversely exhibits a contemplative thoughtfulness in the evening's slower numbers. A singer of graceful poignance and command Akers achieves an intimacy and closeness with her audience that can only be described as 'exhilarating.'

Called a "warm, funny, vulnerable entertainer" by The New York Times, Akers woos the audience with her poise and charm. Nominated for a Tony Award for her Broadway debut in the original production of Nine, Akers has appeared at a number of prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel, and three performances at the White House. Her film career includes appearances in Heartburn, Vibes and Woody Allen's The Purple Rose of Cairo.

"Time Flies" is part of Cape May Stage's acclaimed Second Stage Broadway Series. This entertaining evening of cabaret will run Monday, August 11 at 8 p.m. The performance will take place at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse at the corner of Bank and Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May. Tickets are $50 and include an exclusive invitation to the after party at the fantastic Wine Bar at the Washington Inn on the corner of Washington and Jefferson Streets immediately following the performance. There you'll get a chance to meet Akers while enjoying delicious complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a well-stocked cash bar.
