Bergen County Players, the pre-eminent community theatre organization in New Jersey, located at the Little Firehouse Theatre, 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell, and winner of NJACT's 2015 Theatre of the Year, presents "The Irish Curse", written by Martin Casella and directed by Ray Yucis, for a limited run on February 27th at 2 pm and 28th at 7 pm. The February 27th performance is already sold out and fewer than 25 seats remain for the performance on February 28th.

A basement meeting hall in a Catholic church is the setting for this wickedly funny play about a self-help group for men.

Size matters to Joseph Flaherty, Stephen Fitzgerald, Rick Baldwin and Kevin Shaunessy. This small group of Irish-American men with certain "shortcomings" regarding their anatomy meets weekly in a Catholic church basement. This allegedly Irish physical attribute is the focus of their weekly whining and complaining as they feel this genetic trait has ruined their lives, despite all being successful New York professionals.

One evening, when a twenty-something blue-collar guy joins the group, he challenges everything the other men thought about "the Irish curse"...tackling their obsession with body image and unmasking the comical and truthful questions of identity, masculinity, sex, relationships, and social status that define their lives.

From its intense adult themes and blistering language to its brutally honest look at sex and body image, the 90 minute production performed without intermission is "one of the best plays of the year! Truly original, truly hysterical and truly touching. You will be enthralled!" TALK ENTERTAINMENT. The Associated Press called it "A very human and even humane play. You will find yourself rooting for these esteem-building sessions to succeed."

The talented cast includes Brendan Hall of Hawthorne, NJ (Rick Baldwin), Matt Rofofsky of Fort Lee, (Stephen Fitzgerald), Jody Laufer of Fair Lawn, (Joseph Flaherty), Jon Magner of Ridgewood, (Father Kevin Shaunessy), and Darren Carfano of Port Chester, NY (Kieran Riley).

The production team, besides director Yucis, includes Linda Taub (Producer & Assistant Director), Geri Berhain (Stage Manager), Joe Lanteri (Lighting Design), Tim Larsen (Sound Design), Ellyn Essig (Décor), Joanne Guarnaccia (Photography), and Jay Weinstein (Publicity).

All performances for "The Irish Curse" take place at The Little Firehouse Theatre at 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell, home to the Bergen County Players since 1949. Performance times are Saturday, February 27th at 2 pm (SOLD OUT), and Sunday, February 28th at 7 pm.
