American Theater Group to Stage Neil LaBute's THE WAY WE GET BY This Winter

American Theater Group, New Jersey's newest professional theater, is proud to present Neil LaBute's new play THE WAY WE GET BY. The production, which marks the regional premiere, will be performed at Hamilton Stage of Union County Performing Arts Center (360 Hamilton St., Rahway), Wednesday, February 3 through Sunday, February 14 (press opening: Saturday, February 6). Directed by Kel Haney, the production features Eric Clem and Turna Mete.

Meet Beth and Doug: two people who have no problem getting dates with their partners of choice. What they do have, however, is a very awkward encounter after spending one hot night together following a drunken wedding reception they attend. They wake up to a blurry morning where the rules of attraction, sex, and society are waiting for them before their first cup of coffee, leading them to ponder how much they really know about each other and how much they really care about what other people think. Slyly profound and irresistibly passionate, THE WAY WE GET BY is Neil LaBute's audacious tale of a very modern romance -- a sharp, sexy, fresh look at love and lust and the whole damn thing.

Turna Meta has appeared in Soldier X (Ma-Yi Theater), The Parable Conference (BAM Next Wave Festival), Asking for Trouble (Ensemble Studio Theater), The Old House (H.B. Studios), The Invested (4th St. Theater). Other credits: Time Stands Still with John Shea and The 39th Steps, both at Theater Workshop of Nantucket. As a BAT company member (the resident company of The Flea Theater), credits include Looking At Christmas (by Steven Banks), Office Hours (by A.R. Gurney), and The Great Recession.

Eric Clem made his Broadway debut in The Elephant Man with Bradley Cooper. His recent credits include All in the Timing (Primary Stages), Just Right Just Now (Lesser America), Party In The USA (The Incubator), and AliceGraceAnon (New George's). Eric has acted with Williamstown Theatre Festival, Ars Nova, Blue Man Group, Naked Angels, New Georges, 52nd Street Project, The Lark, The Attic, and Woodshed Collective.

Kel Haney is a freelance director, who focuses on new plays and musicals. Recent directing credits include: Comfort/Haney's The Elephant in Every Room I Enter (La MaMa, Mabou Mines), Vicki Ramierez's Glenburn 12 WP (Summer Shorts, 59E59), Kate Cortesi's Great Kill (Premiere Stages), Melisa Annis' United Front (Primary Stages/Fordham), Gardiner Comfort's You're Not Tough (HERE, Dixon Place, James Christy's Liberty Live (Premiere Stages), Jessica Dickey's Row After Row, Rachel Bonds' Little Rock (both at Williamstown Theatre Festival). She has directed and developed new work at Ars Nova, The Directors Company, Cherry Lane Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre and Youngblood, Keen Company, The Lark, Ma-Yi Theater Company, New Dramatists, New Georges, NY Fringe Festival, Rising Phoenix Rep, Studio 42, Vampire Cowboys, Westport Country Playhouse, & the 52nd Street Project.

Neil LaBute is an award-winning playwright, filmmaker, and screenwriter. His plays include bash, Reasons to be Pretty (Tony Award nominated for best play), In a Forest, Dark and Deep,and Reasons to be Happy. His films include In the Company of Men (New York Critics' Circle Award for Best First Feature and the Filmmaker Trophy at the Sundance Film Festival), Your Friends and Neighbors, Nurse Betty, Possession, The Shape of Things, Some Velvet Morning, and Dirty Weekend. He is a 2013 recipient of a Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
