10th Annual Metuchen Junebug Artfest Opens This Saturday

The annual Metuchen Junebug ArtFest kicks off on Saturday evening, June 3rd from 6:00 - 10:00 pm with a fantastic array of open air art exhibits, live "art" events and music performances throughout the streets downtown Metuchen.

Community members of all ages are invited to feast their eyes on creativity of all types at various locations: works of art in oil, acrylic, watercolor, clay, glass, precious stones, textiles, photography, and fiber; rock, latin and jazz music from pre-eminent bands in the tri-state area; dance performances and open mic sessions.


6:00 - 10:00 pm: Metuchen High School Student Art Show @ Pearl Street Business Center Art Gallery (16 Pearl Street, opposite the Parking Deck). The work of 18 MHS students from will be on display, including stretched canvasses, framed paper pieces and several photography pieces. MHS has a new photography program for the first time - including a large format printer, and the works in photography that will be on display are an exciting kick off point for the program! Metuchen Public Library - Community Nursery School Emerging Artist Show @ 480 Middlesex Avenue

  • A presentation of Young Emerging Artists from Metuchen's Community Nursery School (CNS) Art Program run by Audrey Kowalski will be hosted by the Metuchen Public Library on Middlesex Avenue. Talented students from CNS will present work that is inspired by famous artists in the Library Gallery and the Children's Library Wing on the 2nd floor of the library. Children in attendance will also be able to participate in creating some of their own art during the program using mixed media materials.
  • Visitors are also invited to participate in the Chalk Walk in front of the Library on Middlesex Avenue. John Arthur, the Library Director, will be singing and playing music inside the Gallery during the event. Refreshments will also be served.

Cai's Creativity Corner - Main Street and Hillside Avenue Create Your Own Junebug Tie Dye T-Shirt - Visitors will create handmade tie-dye T-shirts using sharpie markers and rubbing alcohol- fireworks full of inspiring bursts of color! Clicks n Bricks Demonstration - Young Junebug artists of all ages are invited to participate in a free play / open build session using LEGO and DUPLO blocks kits to construct buildings, car and robots.


Activities with Specific Timeslots:

  • 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Imma Barrera Photo Walk; Borough Hall (500 Main Street), main entrance, rotunda gallery; sign up in advance via contact@imma.photo; a jury will determine the top 3 images, which will be printed, displayed and announced during the awards ceremony on June 17 (7:30 pm - Main Stage).
  • 7:00 pm - 2017 Junebug Sculpture Reveal: Dan Fenelon - In front of Metuchen Savings (429 Main Street) - An artist, muralist, illustrator, and graphic designer for more than 20 years, Madison New Jersey-based Dan Fenelon will unveil a large wooden sculpture (8 feet tall x 4 feet wide) painted in his signature vibrant, muralist style. ArtFest visitors will literally be able to stand inside the creation and become a Junebug!
  • 8:30 - 10:00 pm - The Circle of Trust Band - Zack Leffand, Ben Davis, Danny Cotton, Greg Molyneux @ the Main Stage on Junebug Plaza, parking lot opposite Lollipop Land; The METUCHEN ROCKS! Summer Concert Series; comprised of some of New Jersey's finest veteran musicians who have a long history of coming together to make music for a variety of local audiences throughout New Jersey and New York City; their music combines deep rock roots with traditional blues and soul music, complementing their deeply felt performances of standards and original compositions.

"This 10th Anniversary edition of Junebug will carry on the Metuchen tradition as a 'haven for the arts' with programming that combines diverse local and regional talent with a more highly curated display of street art, gallery art, music performances and live art events," commented Planning Team Leader Bob Diken. "All of this will culminate in a unique and amazing Art Party for all ages each week, which we hope will bring you back to enjoy all that we have to offer.
