THE NORMAL HEART, Larry Kramer's autobiographical account of the onset of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the mid-eighties, is to play Amsterdam for the limited run of two weeks. The play, featuring a host of Dutch stage and screen actors, will be staged in the De La Mar theatre, opening on July 30.

THE NORMAL HEART stars Frederik Brom, Henriëtte Tol, Freek Bartels, Thijs Römer, Kevin Hassing, Jelle de Jong, Oren Schrijver and Daniel Cornelissen. Job Gosschalk directs. The play has been translated into Dutch by Coot van Doesburgh.

THE NORMAL HEART was first produced by Joseph Papp and directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg at The Public Theater in 1985, where it ran for 294 performances. A recent revival closed on Broadway on July 10, 2011, won three 2011 Tony Awards. The play was also honored as the Best Revival of a Play by the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Awards and received Drama Desk Awards for Best Ensemble and Best Direction of a Play, along with a Special Citation from the New York Drama Critics Circle.

The Dutch production coincides with the filming of THE NORMAL HEART for an HBO screen adaptation. Helmed by Glee's Ryan Murphy, the screen version is to premiere in 2014. Jim Parsons and Taylor Kitsch will star in the HBO film, alongside Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer.
