Fun Home, Waitress and An American in Paris headline the 2017-18 HCA/TriStar Health Broadway at TPAC Series, which leads off with the world premiere of a new musical in development - Part of the Plan, an original musical written by Kate Atkinson and Karen Harris and featuring songs from the catalog of famed singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg.

Those four shows - along with eight others that complete the series and includes four special engagements at Tennessee Performing Arts Center - were revealed in grand style Tuesday night by TPAC ceo Kathleen O'Brien during an event in Andrew Jackson Hall that featured performances by Broadway's Nicole Van Giesen and Betsy Wolfe, along with Jazmin Gorsline from the Hamburg production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Love Never Dies and stars Harley Jay and J.T. Hodges from the upcoming Part of the Plan.

And while Broadway behemoth Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda's 11-time Tony Award winner, doesn't yet have a spot on the TPAC season, ceo and president Kathleen O'Brien assured that show's fans that negotiations continue to bring it to Nashville as quickly as possible. "I promise you," she said, "those conversations are going on and those calls are being made."

To tantalize Hamilton fans - and to give them something to tide them over - the show's Leslie Odom Jr. will be presented in concert at TPAC this August 15, an announcement greeted by a roar of approval from the audience.

"We're so fortunate to have access to a deep and rich menu of classic and contemporary Broadway titles to present in Nashville," said O'Brien. "Along with returning fan favorites only available on tour, our season brings new productions that explore relevant themes and current issues, bringing them to life on stage in extraordinary ways. We hope audiences will find themselves in these stories and make new connections with those around them through the shared experience of live theatre."

Part of the Plan. launches a blockbuster season - its largest and most expansive in TPAC history - that includes the Nashville debuts of contemporary Broadway hits like the ground-breaking 2015 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Fun Home; the sumptuous Tony Award-winning An American in Paris, featuring the music of George and Ira Gershwin; the hit musical Waitress, inspired by Adrienne Shelly's film and featuring original music and lyrics by six-time Grammy Award® nominee Sara Bareilles and the long-awaited continuation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's ultimate love story, Love Never Dies, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera.

Jay and Hodges performed a medley of Fogelberg's biggest hits in their presentation from Part of the Plan, while Van Giesen, from the Broadway cast of Fun Home, sang the moving "Telephone Line" and Betsy Wolfe, most recently seen on the main stem in Falsettos, performed Sara Bareilles' "She Used to Me Mine" from Waitress. Jazmin Gorsline, who starred in the Hamburg production of Love Never Dies, sang the show's title tune to herald the North American tour of Webber's new musical sequel to Phantom of the Opera.

The season also will feature beloved classic titles like the critically acclaimed Lincoln Center Theater production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I; a new production based on the Tony-Winning revival of Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Cabaret and the highly anticipated return of Wicked - which is TPAC's most requested show, by fans and season ticket holders, according to Christi Dortch, vice president of programming - slated for a four-week run in 2018.

TPAC also will present four special Broadway engagements, including the previously announced summer debut of Disney's The Little Mermaid; the Tony, Grammy, and Olivier Award-winning musical, Jersey Boys, which last played TPAC in 2009; Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's Tony Award-winning phenomenon, Les Miserables, which last played Nashville in 2011; and a limited engagement of the The Illusionists - Live from Broadway.

Part of the Plan marks the first time TPAC has produced and presented an original developmental production on its Broadway series. Helmed by Tony Award-nominated director and choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett, and with musical arrangements by Grammy Award-winners Victor Vanacore and Laurence Juber, the musical features a mix of talented performers from New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville, including Broadway's Harley Jay and Nashville's own J.T. Hodges.

Produced by K-Squared Entertainment and co-produced by TPAC, Part of the Plan follows three turbulent decades in the lives of an adopted boy and the teenaged girl of privilege who was forced to give him up and explores themes of love, loss, renewal, and how everything in life happens for a reason.

"Our commitment to support and launch new works and collaborations was elevated last season with our co-production of Studio Tenn's stunning Evita, and we continue the journey this season by co-producing the developmental production of a new American musical," O'Brien said.

"This is a natural and deliberate direction for us, and we're thrilled to share this journey with our season ticket holders and Broadway fans. Dan Fogelberg had many, many ties to Nashville so it's very fitting that the world premiere is being produced here. His stirring music was the soundtrack of a generation and TPAC couldn't be more proud to bring this moving, touching story to the stage so that new audiences can enjoy his music."

PART OF THE PLAN is a new American musical - a captivating story scored with the music and lyrics of the late, celebrated singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg. Produced by K-Squared Entertainment in association with the Nashville-based non-profit Tennessee Performing Arts Center, this show marks TPAC's first original production. Directed by Tony-nominated Lynne Taylor-Corbett, with book by Kate Atkinson & Karen Harris, this developmental production follows the lives of an adopted boy and the teenaged girl of privilege who was forced to give him up. PART OF THE PLAN takes audiences through the post-World War II boom times, the social and sexual revolution of the 1960s, and the political upheaval of the 1970s, while exploring the theme that everything in life happens for a reason. Seamlessly interweaving the iconic music of an authentic American Troubadour, PART OF THE PLAN brings Fogelberg's music to a new generation who may not know his work, to those who may have forgotten his artistry, and to the many die-hard fans who long to hear his music in all forms. Contains adult language and some military situations.
