Nashville Symphony Honored with New Breed of Rose, 3/24

The Nashville Symphony is being honored by Jackson & Perkins with a brand new rose variety, aptly named ‘Crescendo.' Crescendo will be the newest addition to the Nashville Music Garden, located in downtown Nashville in Hall of Fame Park. The new rose's unveiling will be held at Schermerhorn Symphony Center's Martha Rivers Ingram Garden Courtyard at 10:30 a.m. on March 24, 2010. This special event will include remarks by Brenda Lee, Barbara Mandrell and Pam Tillis, all of whom have been honored with their own roses from the Nashville Music Garden.

The ‘Crescendo' rose is a new fragrant cream and pink blend hybrid tea rose bred from two award-winning parents, ‘Gemini' and ‘New Zealand'. This high-centered, exhibition quality hybrid with large dark green glossy foliage and excellent garden performance was developed by noted hybridizer Keith Zary of Jackson & Perkins, one of the country's oldest and largest rose developers. Nashville Rose Society member Sam Jones says, "Crescendo's blend of beauty symbolizes the pleasing strains of enduring classical music."

Describing ‘Crescendo,' Pat Bullard, Nashville Music Garden founder, says, "The fragrance is strong enough to fill a room from a single bloom and memorable enough to never be confused with any other rose." The tribute is inspired by the Nashville Music Garden, the unique floral symbol of musical appreciation in the heart of ‘Music City,' and the Nashville Rose Society.

Nashville Music Garden and The Nashville Rose Society together approached hybridizers Jackson & Perkins with their desire to honor the Nashville Symphony, today regarded as one of the most creative and innovative orchestras in the nation. "We are thrilled to receive this unique and very beautiful tribute to the Nashville Symphony and its growing reputation in the music community," said Nashville Symphony President & CEO Alan D. Valentine. The ‘Crescendo' roses will be featured prominently among flowers honoring Nashville's musical artists and celebrities in the Hall of Fame Park across from Schermerhorn Symphony Center downtown.
