Pierre MacDuff, General Manager of Les Deux Mondes, has announced that Unity Theatre's Artistic Director, Graeme Phillips, and Executive Director, Sue Williams, will be in town from Liverpool to attend the opening night performance of Gold Mountain. Gold Mountain, three years in the making and created on both sides of the Atlantic, was first performed in 2010 and was remounted in April, 2012. From April 16-27, 2013 it will be performed at Théâtre Aux Écuries, where the original script idea was transformed into the multimedia theatrical language that it now is.

Unity Theatre Artistic Director, Graeme Phillips, first met Les Deux Mondes in 2007 and left with promises to 'collaborate sometime...' He had a similar conversation with Gold Mountain playwright David Yip who had always wanted to tell a story inspired by his father's travels and arrival and life in Liverpool. Originally constructed as a conventional dialogue driven drama, Phillips felt Gold Mountain needed opening up, "I wondered whether Les Deux Mondes, with their sound sampling, video and stunning visuals could be the group to deliver this story." The team worked back and forth in each others' theatres and according to Phillips, "created a piece that was truly open, innovative and inspiring." For David Yip, "Three French Canadians had the humanity and wisdom to bring a Liverpool/Chinese story to the stage and make it relevant to the rest of the world. That's life changing!"

Unity Theatre is dedicated to enhancing the quality of the performing arts in Liverpool, England, by encouraging creativity, participation, innovation and diversity. It is one of the best loved theatres in Liverpool and recently won the Best Performing Venue award at the Mersey Partnership Tourism Awards.
