Kari Margolis Workshops Return to Bloomington Theatre and Art Center, 1/26

After a highly successful sold-out workshops in 2011 and 2012, internationally-recognized playwright, director, actress, and master teacher Kari Margolis is back in Bloomington. Bloomington Theatre and Art Center welcomes Kari Margolis on Saturday, January 26, 2013 for her workshop titled Margolis Method: A Theatrical Journey to the Actor's Creative Core, a 1-day intensive from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. designed to help professional and student actors merge their body, breath, and imagination to create a complete performance.

This workshop will allow students to experience the dynamic process of tapping into what Margolis calls the actor's "creative state", the balance of physical, intellectual, and emotional expression. The Margolis Method's clear and in-depth vocabulary offers actors, directors and playwrights a common language with which to more precisely communicate in rehearsal and performance. Margolis believes and teaches that the 'magic ingredient' great works of theater possess lies in the heart and soul of the actor who can "synthesize the instinctual with the intellectual and the visceral with the technical." This workshop is designed to help professional and student actors to learn how to do just that.

Kari Margolis co-founded the Margolis Brown Theater Company (originally known as The Adaptors) with Tony Brown in 1984. Their work has been presented in New York, throughout the Midwest, and in Singapore. Locally, Margolis has been commissioned to create work for the Children's Theater Company, the University of Minnesota's Theater Department, and the Minnesota Chorale. She is the recipient of a Pew/TCG National Residency fellowship, a McKnight National Fellowship, and four successive NEA fellowships. Margolis has developed a physical training method for actors and teaches master classes and lecture demonstrations nationally and internationally. She is presently building the Margolis Method Center in Highland, NY where she has been reaching an international student body since 2005. The Margolis Method Center runs a two-year program, summer workshops, University Professor Certification, and Professional Artist Certification Programs.
