Cie Macadames Come to the Twin Cities, 2/21-22

Make Theatre Company presents Cie Macadâmes from Paris, France. A unique blend of traditional French pantomime, dance and live music, this physical theatre troupe is guaranteed to entertain the whole family with Chaussée Interdite aux Piétons (Roadway Closed to Pedestrians).

This show has delighted audiences in Los Angeles at the 2011 California International Theatre Festival and in Albuquerque at the 2012 Revolutions International Theatre Festival.

Their first multi-city American tour begins the last week of January at the 2014 Revolutions Festival in Albuquerque. In February the troupe brings Roadway north to Rapid City and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, concluding their tour in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.

Make Theatre Company is proud to be producing the stunning art of Macadâmes this winter in New Mexico, South Dakota and Minnesota. Chaussée Interdite aux Piétons (Roadway Closed to Pedestrians) may at first glance be a simple boy-meets-girl romantic comedy, but at its heart is a unique theatrical experience that combines elements of mime, clowning, acrobatics, object manipulation, theatre, music and dance. Without a single word being spoken, all audiences can universally understand the hilarious story of a man just trying to do his job and the girl that won't get out his way.

Macadâmes was founded in 2008 by two actor-mimes, Lilou Des Bois and Clément Chaboche as a performance troupe that focuses on street art and physical theatre. Perfecting Roadway on the streets of Paris and beyond, they adapted it into an indoor theatrical event and now regularly perform both versions in theatre festivals across Europe and the United States. Joining Lilou and Clément is the musician Julien Stella. During the show Julien plays the bass clarinet and beatboxes (vocal effects to imitate a drum kit), creating a sound-scape for the characters. In fact, his beatboxing duo, Box Office, won the 2011 Beatboxing Championship of France. In addition to their special performances, Lilou, Clément, and Julien will be offering workshops in physical theatre, music and movement.

Make Theatre Company is dedicated to providing international cultural exchange to diverse communities in the most eco-friendly manner. Make Theatre Company co-founders Jenny Brass and Nathan Simpson-Coffelt met at the 2012 Revolutions International Theatre Festival in Nathan's hometown, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jenny, who has been producing theatre since the age of sixteen, was a visiting staff member from Minneapolis, Minnesota and Nathan was the festival's Artist Liaison. A friendship grew based on a passion for international theatre, and a year later a new nonprofit international Production Company was incorporated in Minnesota: Make Theatre Company.
