Darren Lemming, the star center fielder of the world champion New York Empires is young, rich,
talented, handsome and so convinced of his popularity that when he casually announces
he's gay, he assumes the news will be readily accepted. It isn't.

His teammates reflect the diversity of American Society including Asians, Hispanics, Blacks, Northerners and Southerners.  This diverse group, victims of prejudice themselves, find reason to express their newfound intolerance.

Friends, fans and teammates react with ambivalence, and when the slipping Empires call up the young phenom Shane Mungitt to close their games, the ambivalence turns to violence. Angry, lonely, guilt-ridden and confused, Darren finds some unlikely solace in the form of friendship with his new business manager, Mason Marzac, a brilliant but repressed guy, who, as everyone around him copes with disenchantment, blooms in the ecstatic discovery of baseball.

Playwright Richard Greenberg won a Tony Award for Best Play 2003 for Take Me Out. Take Me Out traveled from London to New York in the first co-production of the Donmar Warehouse and The Public Theater, and then transferred to Broadway. He is the author of over 25 plays including 8 South Coast Repertory World Premieres:  The Violet Hour,  Three Days of Rain (Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, Pulitzer Prize finalist, Olivier, Drama Desk and Hull-Warriner nominations),  and The Extra Man.   He is a winner of the Oppenheimer Award and the first winner of the PEN/Laura Pels Award for a playwright in mid-career.

Richard Greenberg grew up in East Meadow, New York, a middle-class Long Island town in Nassau County, east of New York City.  Greenberg graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University.  He attended Harvard for graduate work in English, and was accepted into Yale's playwriting program.

Reviews of the original show include.

New York Times:  "What an enchanting and enchanted take on baseball Mr Greenberg has created...passionately person and lyrically analytical. It is a sensibility that is so smart, raw and sincere that all at once that you may find tears in your eyes... an unconditional, American epiphany to cherish." NY Times

Variety: "a heady, heartfelt and enormously appealing romance. Perhaps never in my theatergoing experience have I experienced such and overwhelming and spontaneous surge of affection sent across the footlights."

The play boasts what Rising Action Theatre's  Artistic Director David Goldyn says is "our most talented cast to date." It features Larry Buzzeo as Kippy, Terry Cuzzort as Shane Mungitt, Eric Jensen as Toddy and Ted Dvoracek as Mars Marzac. All have received accolades for their performances in Rising Action Theatre's Bent and/ or Some Men.

Making their Rising Action Theatre debuts are Florida Atlantic BFA Graduates Darryl Leonard Walton as Davey Battle and Laris Macario as Darren Lemming.  Rising Action is thrilled to find
and present these two new major talents.

Also in the cast are other major acting finds:  Bill Dobbins (from Orlando Shakespeare Festival,  The Film Wilder Napalm and New York credits), George Vince (various shows at Broward Stage Door), Carlos Palacios, Cyril Serrao (Telemundo), and Louie San Luis (Hair at Lake Worth Playhouse) as Kawabata.

Take Me Out is directed by Artistic Director David Goldyn. Mr. Goldyn was the Assistant Director on the much acclaimed Bent as well as directing Some Men, Southern Baptist Sissies, The Last Hairdresser at Rising Action Theatre.
