Special Student Performance of American Classic

Florida Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce a special one-time student matinee performance of Kaufman & Hart's Pulitzer Prize Winning classic, You Can't Take It With You, on Thurs., Feb. 18 at 10:15 am.

Written in 1936, the play is an American classic, a comedy with a timeless message about love, acceptance, individuality and one lovable family's wacky pursuit of the American Dream.

The cost per student for this special Student Matinee on Feb. 18th is $10, and is open to groups of all sizes, from public and private schools, home school groups or even school clubs and organizations. With only one student performance, availability is limited. To book your group, please contact Rachael Endrizzi, Florida Rep's Education Director, at 239-332-4665 x20.

"This play has a very important message that is even more poignant in hard times," Endrizzi said. "The most important thing for young people is that it paints a uniquely comical portrait of an American family living during The Great Depression, and as a piece of dramatic literature, it is an artist's reflection of what people were feeling in 1936."

You Can't Take It With You is a funny classic that chronicles the unlikely pairing of Tony Kirby and Alice Sycamore. Tony is the son of a Wall Street banker, while Alice comes from a flock of very odd ducks. The Sycamores spend their days contentedly doing what pleases them, whether it's writing plays, playing the xylophone, raising snakes or dabbling in homemade pyrotechnics. And when the uptight Kirby's arrive for dinner on the wrong night, the stage is set for a wildly funny clash of family values featuring the zaniest cast of characters ever assembled in the Historic Arcade Theatre.

In addition to the school performance on Feb. 18th, Kaufman & Hart's You Can't Take It With You plays at Florida Rep through Feb. 26. Regular performances are Tues. - Sat. at 8pm, with 2pm matinees on Wed., Sun. & selected Saturdays with a special Twilight Performance at 7pm on Feb. 7.

You Can't Take It With You is sponsored by John & Marjorie Madden and Madeleine Taeni.

Subscriptions and single tickets are now on sale through the box office at 239-332-4488. Single tickets are priced at $42 & $38, and $25 & $20 for previews.

Florida Repertory Theatre performs in the Historic Arcade Theatre on Bay St. between Jackson & Hendry with free parking in the Fort Myers River District. Visit Florida Rep online at www.floridarep.org.
