The high-energy classic musical Sweet Charity is set to sparkle on the Maltz Jupiter Theatre stage for two nights only!

With performances May 15 and 16 on the Theatre's stage, Sweet Charity features 48 local teens in grades 6 -12 from the Theatre's Paul and Sandra Goldner Conservatory of Performing Arts. Directed by Conservatory instructor Lea Roy, the musical features choreography by Broadway veteran Brian Andrews and music direction by John Mercurio.

Featuring music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and book by Neil Simon, Sweet Charity tell the tale of Charity, a girl whose world is Times Square and is populated by an eclectic group of charmers, cynics and ne'er do wells who laugh, cry, sing and dance their way through relationships set to the rhythm of New York City.

"I am ecstatic to be portraying such an iconic character on the Maltz Jupiter Theatre stage," said Emily Gough, 15, who is performing the role of Charity. "Participating in the Conservatory's programs is great for kids who appreciate having a live stage experience (versus strictly a classroom setting). I love it when the orchestra joins in with live music and spotlights hit the stage. We've been working very hard on this production and I can't want to show audiences what we've accomplished."

Brimming with such memorable songs as "Big Spender" and "If My Friends Could See Me Now," the musical will feature a full professional orchestra and unforgettable Bob Fosse choreography, including the iconic and unique "Rich Man's Frug:" a wildly energetic dance number that showcases Fosse's distinctive choreography style, particularly his creative use of unusual poses, gestures, and arm movement. The show earned a Tony Award for choreography during its original 1966 Broadway production.

"Sweet Charity is hilarious, heartwarming and perfect for a spring night out," said Julie Rowe, the Theatre's director of education. "The choreography and dancing will leave theatregoers spellbound and inspired by the talents of our young performers. Bring your friends and enjoy Charity's journey on the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's stage!"

The musical features design elements from a host of industry professionals, including scenic design by the Theatre's assistant properties master Casey Blanton, sound design by the Theatre's resident sound designer Marty Mets, lighting design by Ardean Landuis, props design by Susan Emley and costume design by Jerry Sturdefant.

"We're proud to offer students the unique opportunity to receive a complete professional theatre experience when they take part in our programs," said Andrew Kato, the Theatre's producing artistic director. "Our students train with Broadway professionals and then are able to experience professional production values: sets, costumes, lights and a full orchestra. Enrollment fees are all-inclusive, covering all costumes and performance-related costs."

Showtimes for the Conservatory's upcoming production of Sweet Charity are 7:30 p.m on Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16. Tickets are $25 for adults; $20 for children. For tickets, call the Theatre's box office at (561) 575-2223 or visit www.jupitertheatre.org.
