The scene is the Kit Kat Klub, a nightclub in Berlin, as the 1920s are drawing to a close, and the Nazi party is on the rise.
The nightclub is overseen by the strange and omniscient Master of Ceremonies, who assures the audience that, whatever their troubles, they will forget them at the Cabaret.
Into this world, struggling American writer Clifford Bradshaw arrives looking for inspiration for his next novel.
