In 1968, Mart Crowley's viciously funny play "The Boys in the Band" opened off-Broadway and created a sensation among New York theatre-goers. It stimulated a new awareness of Gay Culture, which became a catalyst for the Stonewall riots a few months later, and we've never been the same since! In 1970, it was a highly successful film directed by William Friedkin (The French Connection, The Exorcist), featured the original NY cast and was seen by millions worldwide. A brand new film documentary chronicling the The Making of the Boys and its impact was a hit at the recent Ft. Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

Now, over 40 years later, Rising Action Theatre is pleased to present an outstanding stage revival of "The Boys in the Band". The play's relevant themes and vibrant characters still powerfully move theatre audiences.

The production is under the capable direction of Michael Leeds. Mr. Leeds was a Tony nominee for Best Director for the Broadway musical Swinging on a Star. Since locating in South Florida, he has directed several highly acclaimed productions, among them A Little Night Music, Mack and Mabel, and Come Blow Your Horn. The ensemble cast features an outstanding group of actors, many who are performing at Rising Action for the first time: Johnnie Bowles, Andy Hermann, Angel Perez, Nigel Revenge, Alan Saban, Brandon St. John, Sam Sherburne and Manuel Uriza.

Come to "The Boys in the Band" to see how far we've come...or have we? It's not a musical!
