Hundreds of kids signed up for classes this fall. Beginning Jan. 4, adults can join in the fun at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's Conservatory of Performing Arts (COPA).

COPA will offer seasonal adult classes in tap and Broadway dance, play readings, Shakespeare, musical theater singing, choral music and playwriting.

And the instructors have world-class resumes.

Join Brian Andrews, performer in two of Broadway's longest running shows - Cats and A Chorus Line - and learn to sing and dance, Broadway-style in Song and Dance with Brian.

Learn from COPA's education director, Julie Rowe, as you analyze the text of the Bard, discuss characters and historical context, and learn to "speak the speech, I pray you," in Shakespeare.

Improve your singing with Cecelia Schieve, former director of opera at Boston Conservatory, and Kerry Rocks, Palm Beach Opera soprano, in private, semi-private or group vocal classes.

Or share your history in Julie Rowe's Memoirs to the Page, a playwriting class that will give you the opportunity to put your oral history down on paper.

"We have so many wonderful courses for adults," said Julie Rowe, COPA director of education. "But we haven't forgotten the kids."
Classes for children, from Mommy and Me through grade 12, are Jan. 5-April 17.

The musical theatre wheel, popular with home-school kids, will return, along with a range of ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop dance classes, as well as courses in playwriting, improv and audition techniques. Private voice lessons also will be available.

And students grades 6-12 who join COPA's Youth Touring Company will give performances at events throughout the area. COPA also will audition students to be in its production of Fame on May 21-22. Auditions are for students grades 6-12 at 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 14 and 1-4 p.m. Dec. 21. Kids accepted will be enrolled in the Musical Theatre Production class.

Registration for classes is now open. Adult classes are $240 for the 12-week semester. Children's classes range from $15-$25 an hour for the 18-week semester.
