"Come Hear the People Sing!" as SMT Presents Les Miserables in Concert

The turntable may be missing, but the full force of Les Miserables

is still coming to Daytona Beach this summer. Through a special arrangement with the Cameron Mackintosh
organization, Seaside Music Theater will produce a concert version of the Tony Award-winning musical which sheds the costumes and set and highlights the beloved score.

The two benefit performances on June 21 at 7 p.m. and June 22 at 2 p.m. will help the theater raise money to solve its current financial crisis. Broadway performer Michael Shawn Lewis will once again be featured as Jean Valjean, the desperate yet determined protagonist at the center of this epic story of justice, love, and faith.

Lewis was seen on the SMT stage last summer as Guido in Nine. He debuted at SMT as Curly in Oklahoma! and played the Beast in the 2004 production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Lewis, who was last seen on Broadway as Raoul in the Phantom of the Opera, will be joined by other SMT favorites such as David Kelly (Silver Screen Serenade,) Shannon Bilo (Nine, Edwin Drood,) Chelsea Lovett, Trevor Southworth (South Pacific, Three Penny Opera,) Mark Catlett (Edwin Drood, White Christmas,) and Nicholas Wuerhmann (A Little Night Music, White Christmas.) In addition, an 18-piece orchestra will share the stage with the performers showcasing this enormously popular music. All the actors and musicians are donating their time and talents in hopes of rebuilding SMT."It is important to me and to the acting community that this theater remains open," said Artistic Director Lester Malizia. "SMT has been a mainstay in the community for over 30 years and to lose it now would be a tragedy."

Les Miserables in Concert will transport you to post-revolutionary France. This sweeping story of love, passion and redemption features the entire score, which includes audience favorites such as "Bring Him Home," "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Castle on a Cloud," and "Do You Hear the People Sing?"To purchase tickets for Les Miserables in Concert, call 386-252-6200 or visit the Seaside Music Theater box office located within the News-Journal Center, 221 N. Beach Street, Daytona Beach. Tickets are $40 for all ages. This is a great opportunity for SMT's long-time patrons to exchange their summer 2008 Les Miserables tickets for this performance of the musical in concert form.
