Tony-nominee John Herrera is slated to star in the world premiere of Christopher Demos-Brown's new play, When The Sun Shone Brighter, at Florida Stage beginning May 12.

The play is about Mayor Jose Sanchez-Fors, Jr. of Miami, a charismatic politician of unlimited potential, whose own lust for power entangles him in a web of sex, lies and ambition. A sultry story from a new South Florida voice.

The cast will include Dan Domingues as José "Joe" Sanchez-Fors, Jr.; Tony nominee John Herrera (Neville in Broadway's The Mystery of Edwin Drood) as Manny Arostegui; Natasha Sherritt as Liz Sanchez-McGovern; Bill Schwartz as José Sanchez, Sr.; Brandon Morris as Det. Dwayne Grant; and Cliff Burgess as Anthony "Tony" Rinaldi.

The creative team includes Kent Goetz (scenic designer), Richard Crowell (lighting designer), Michiko Kitayama Skinner (costume designer) and Matt Kelly (sound design).

When The Sun Shone Brighter will start previews May 12 and have an official press opening May 14. The play will run through June 20 at Florida Stage. Performances are scheduled for Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00pm, and Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2:00pm,

Tony nominee and Drama Desk Award winner John Herrera, a native of Cuba, whose Broadway credits include Evita (playing Che opposite Patti LuPone), The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Camelot and Man of La Mancha. 

Christopher Demos-Brown's writing credits include the full-length play Our Lady of Allapattah (winner of the 2006 ARTSport New Works Playwriting Contest) and the screenplays Shark Valley Slough (Slamdance 2006 and Project Greenlight Semifinalist) and The Age of Blue Jeans. When the Sun Shone Brighter was a Finalist for the National New Play Network's 2008 Smith Prize, and a Winner of the Actor's Playhouse (Coral Gables) 2008 "Page to Stage" Competition. Chris is a member of The Dramatists Guild of America and The Screen Actors Guild. He's also a lawyer and lives in Miami with his wife Stephanie and his daughters Kate and Jill.
