Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne presents their annual Juried Student Art Exhibit in the Maxwell C. King Center Lobby Gallery now-April 27. This highly competitive exhibit drew nearly 100 entries from EFSC students taking courses in Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking, Drawing, Painting, Design, and Computer Graphics. Students were invited to submit assignments that they created in their academic art classes on the Melbourne Campus. The EFSC Melbourne campus Art Department offers approximately 17-24 studio art courses per semester and has an enrollment of up to 650 annually. Students complete foundational coursework necessary for majors as diverse as Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Studio Art, Art Therapy, Art Education, and more.

This year's judge is Trent Berning, Assistant Professor of Art at Daytona State College and a professional ceramic artist. Berning earned his MFA in Ceramics from the University of Tennessee Knoxville and maintains a ceramic studio in Port Orange. In addition to exhibiting his work across the United States, he has taught at numerous colleges, schools and art centers. As judge, Berning selected 41 entries to be included in the show, as well as designating 13 award winners.

Over $2700 in awards have been donated by: Mr. Ray Kania, Meehan's Office Products, The Brevard Watercolor Society, Mimi's Crafts, the EFSC Melbourne Campus Provost Office, Liberal Arts Department, Bookstore, and Art Faculty members. Custom matting for the accepted entries was donated by area frame shops, including Art Expressions and Oceanside Frames.

Students attending the exhibit with their EFSC classes will have a chance to vote on "Student's Choice Awards" in the categories of 2-D and 3-D.

The awards reception is open to the public and will be held Friday, April 18th from 6-7pm in the King Center lobby.

The King Center Lobby Gallery is also open to the public on Thursdays from 4-6pm during the month of April. For more information, call 433-5717.
