"Boeing-Boeing is one of the funniest plays of all time, and we're very excited to kick our new season off with such a brilliant comedy," said Florida Rep Producing Artistic Director and Boeing-Boeing director, Robert Cacioppo. "Florida Rep is only one of eight or nine theatres in America fortunate enough to get the rights to produce Boeing-Boeing, so Southwest Florida audiences are very lucky." Boeing-Boeing is a sidesplitting comedy that soars in the stratosphere, and is first-class entertainment that will have audiences unfastening their seat belts and rolling in the aisles. Set in 1960's Paris, it is the hilarious story of Bernard, an American bachelor juggling three flight attendant fiancées, each from a different airline. His life is perfect, and with each fiancée on a different flight schedule, Bernard is on cloud nine.
But things get turbulent. Bernard's droll French housekeeper plays romantic air-traffic controller as schedules change, flights are delayed and communication is interrupted. This no-holds-barred farce unfolds hilariously as unexpected arrivals and dangerous maneuvers quickly ground Bernard's blissful existence. By the time the curtain falls, Bernard has jet lag, and audiences will need to assume crash positions as they find out why the New York Post called Boeing-Boeing "Better than sex!"Florida Rep's production stars Brendan Powers as Bernard, the American in Paris, with Deanna Gibson, Christina Lynn Phillips and Rachel Lomax as his three beautiful flight attendant fiancées. All Florida Rep regulars, Powers has appeared in Doubt, The Glass Menagerie and the Rep's nationally acclaimed, Dancing at Lughnasa, while Gibson appeared in Almost Maine and, most recently, opposite Powers in Born Yesterday. Both Lomax and Phillips are back onstage at the Rep after having previously appeared together as featured dancers in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
Also in the cast are Florida Rep regulars Carrie Lund as Bertha the housekeeper, and Mark Chambers as Robert, an old friend of Bernard's, a "reluctant flyer" in over his head. Lund is a founding member of the Florida Rep ensemble whose most recent work includes The Last Romance, Alone Together and Dancing at Lughnasa. Chambers returns to the Rep this season after having been seen in A Funny Thing...Forum, The Rainmaker and Rounding Third.Florida Rep Producing Artistic Director, Robert Cacioppo (The Last Romance; Born Yesterday; Art of Murder), directs the production and leads an expert team of designers including set & lighting designer Jim Hunter (The Glass Menagerie; The Last Romance), Florida Rep resident costumer, Roberta Malcolm (Shirley Valentine; Art of Murder; Dancing at Lughnasa) and stage manager, Brian Maschka (Dancing at Lughnasa; Doubt)."This smash comedy will start our 12th season off on the right foot," Cacioppo finished, "and with such a stellar cast and production team, I know our audiences will want to become frequent flyers."
