Following the success of last year's Overstock Yard Sale at Theatre Memphis, the event will be repeated this year on October 27 on the TM campus at 630 Perkins Extended from 7am – 1pm. Items for sale represent countless stage performances and will include some vintage costumes and sewing patterns and other unique items. The sale merchandise is being offered to make room in the theater's stock and storage rooms in anticipation of archiving show costumes being offered for rental to other theaters.

"There are so many unique items that someone would enjoy, I'm sure," Mitch Baker, Costume Designer at Theatre Memphis said. "So many things are stored that we just will never use again and we need the space to support our show rental business. Many of these overstock items are truly one-of-a-kind and could make amazing costumes with someone's artistic touch." Baker, has been preparing for the upcoming production of A Christmas Carol and saw lots to sell when going through the stock room. Some of the items available will be hats, gowns, overcoats, wedding dresses, shoes, vintage sewing patterns and lots fabric in swatches and bolts. Some items will be vintage considering the collection has been growing since the archiving of costumes at Theatre Memphis began with the opening of the current building in 1975. According to Baker, "All items will be priced to SELL!"

Theatre Memphis will also be accepting certain tax-deductible donations should anyone wish to contribute items to the yard sale to increase the total amount of money to be raised. Most all clothes will be accepted as well as working electronics and functional furniture. Donations will be received for 2 – 5pm Monday – Friday at Theatre Memphis, 630 Perkins Extended. All items not sold will be donated to other non-profit charities.

Early-bird shoppers will be welcome at 7am but will be charged $5 to have first access to all the merchandise. Doors will be open to the public at 8am. Grab bags will be made available from Noon – 1pm and as much as can be stuffed into a bag will be sold for only $5 per bag. Debbie Litch, Executive Director at Theatre reiterated the need for space. "Our sale last year was a great 'housecleaning' start," she said. "There was just so much that we couldn't put it all out for sale. So we're doing it again. We're talking 35 years of storage!' "

Volunteers for organizing the display of the items will have first choice of items for purchase after the set up is complete on Friday, October 26. High School theatre departments and other independent performing groups are encouraged to contact Amy Hale to participate at ashale@theatrememphis.org.

Theatre Memphis is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization located at 630 Perkins Extended (corner of Perkins and Southern) and is a community theatre whose mission is to provide outstanding theatrical experiences to enrich the lives of our audiences and participants.
