Now Playing Onstage in Memphis - Week of 1/26/2014 UMPHREY'S MCGEE
Tennessee Theatre
1/30-1/30/2014
Fans who have followed Umphrey's McGee for any period of time know that there are only two guarantees: you never know what you're going to get, and Umphrey's always delivers. How else can a band be relentlessly innovative in both music and fan relations for 13-plus years? The latest expected twist arrives in the form of their newest studio album (and first with ATO Records) Death By Stereo (9/13), the follow up to 2009's Mantis. Mantis surprised fans with a collection of music never before played, and surprised the music industry with an innovative marketing campaign that catapulted the album past the Heatseekers chart, debuting at #62 on Billboard's "Top 200" chart without any radio play or television appearances. Death By Stereo's concise melodic approach and accessible songwriting is everything fans had hoped for, but not what anyone expected. Death By Stereo is disarmingly straightforward. Sure, you can dance to it, but the clever arrangements, meticulously crafted chordal interplay, and virtuoso instrumentation put Umphrey's McGee in a category all their own.

Now Playing Onstage in Memphis - Week of 1/26/2014 QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
Tennessee Theatre
2/1-2/1/2014
It came from the desert. What "it" was, exactly, is still a matter of debate. Whatever kind of strange and terrible mutation slouched out of the irradiated California wasteland in 1996, it's evidently still around. It lives. It breathes. It can't be stopped.

Now Playing Onstage in Memphis - Week of 1/26/2014 JONNY LANG
Tennessee Theatre
2/4-2/4/2014
Sixteen years ago, at the age of 16, Jonny Lang found incredible success with the release of his major label debut album Lie To Me. Fame does not seem to have impacted him from being the same country farm boy from Fargo, ND who got his start in the local clubs of Minneapolis. He survived the passage of youth to adulthood, fell in love, began a family, and in the process passed through the life lessons we all endure. He has a keen sense of what he aims to achieve creatively, what music means to him, and is focused on the impact that his songs bring to the lives of those that encounter his repertoire. For Lang, with the release of Fight For My Soul, he is entering a chapter wherein he has found his true voice. As an artist he has evolved since he began the writing process. The sound of that evolution is all over Fight For My Soul. "What You're Looking For" carefully layers banjo, guitars, spacey keyboards and a percussion sample to create a sonic dreamscape for its story of searching for life's essentials a" faith, love, hope. The arrangement of "We Are the Same" evokes the freewheeling spirit of Motown's Psychedelic Shack era.

Now Playing Onstage in Memphis - Week of 1/26/2014 MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT
Playhouse on the Square
1/24-2/16/2014
Monty Python's Spamalot is a musical comedy "lovingly ripped off from" the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Like the film, it is a highly irreverent parody of the Arthurian Legend, but it differs from the film in many ways.

Now Playing Onstage in Memphis - Week of 1/26/2014 WICKED
Orpheum Theatre
1/29-2/16/2014
Back by "Popular" demand. Variety calls WICKED "a cultural phenomenon," and when it last played Memphis, it broke box office records and sold out in record time. Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, WICKED is "Broadway's biggest blockbuster" (The New York Times). Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One - born with emerald green skin - is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for "the most complete - and completely satisfying - new musical in a long time" (USA Today).
