After a successful first year at the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education, the Orpheum Theatre Group is pleased to announce that classes are now available for students and adults who wish to extend their love of the performing arts beyond having a seat in the audience.

"We love being able to bring the best in entertainment to our stages for patrons to enjoy," said Brett Batterson, President and CEO. "With our newest venue, we are able to fully embrace our mission by providing educational opportunities like these workshops to help equip our students for success and continue to provide more opportunities for our patrons to get the most out of their performing arts experience."

This month, workshops will kick off with a musical theatre dance class on Saturday, October 29th from 9-11:30 AM for students in grades 7-12. Led by Ballet Memphis company member James Vessell, students of all levels of experience are invited to spend a fun-filled morning learning musical theatre dance technique and a combination from a Broadway musical.

In December, high school students that are interested in pursuing theatre in college are encouraged to attend a two-day college audition prep workshop on Saturday, December 3rd from 12-5 PM and Sunday, December 4th from 1:30-5 PM. Students will receive guidance from professional actors and directors on best practice methods for selecting a monologue and music material for a successful audition. They will also have the opportunity to go through a mock audition to receive constructive feedback. Access to the Halloran Centre's state of the art recording studio will be available for students to record video submissions, and a photographer will be on site to take professional headshots at a discounted rate.

Guest artists from renowned New York City actor training program, The Open Jar Institute, will host a masterclass geared toward perfecting audition skills on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 10 AM to 2 PM. After the workshop, students will have the opportunity to participate in an optional audition for this year's Open Jar Summer Intensive in New York City! Visit openjarinstitute.com for more information about the program.

Talented teaching artists from throughout the Mid-South will also host classes at the Halloran Centre through a Partner Classes program. Brittany Church, Orpheum Education staff member and professionally trained dancer, offers Beginner, Intermediate, and Adult Ballet classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays in the Halloran Centre's professional dance studio. Ballet classes are open to students ages eight and up with all levels of experience. To sign up or for more information, email church@orpheum-memphis.com.

From landing that big audition to learning something new, the Halloran Centre and Partner classes provide the training for the Broadway bound and an enriching experience for the performing arts novice. For registration and additional information, visit www.orpheum-memphis.com or email education@orpheum-memphis.com.

The mission of the Orpheum Theatre Group is to enhance the communities we serve by utilizing the performing arts to entertain, educate, and enlighten while preserving the historic Orpheum Theatre and the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education.
