Portland Ovations presents the Pablo Ziegler Trio for Nuevo Tango performing interpretation of Argentinean Tango music at Hannaford Hall, USM Portland on Thursday, March 28th at 7:30 pm.

Born in Argentina, Pablo Ziegler started playing piano with jazz groups at age 14 and solo concerts at age 18 and then went on to be the pianist for Astor Piazzolla's quintet for over ten years. Since then he has taken the classical tango form to new levels with his jazz-influenced improvisation and percussive, yet lyrical use of piano. Ziegler is an artist who inspires awe and devotion whenever he performs and has won both a Grammy and Latin Grammy Award. For the March 28 performance, Ziegler brings to Portland his interpretations of Argentinean Tango music and is joined by guitarist Claudio Ragazzi, and bandoneón player Héctor del Curto. As the Chicago Tribune remarks, "There's no question that Ziegler takes the tango to levels of sophistication and refinement probably undreamed of by Piazzolla," leaving no doubt that he is the outstanding tango music representative of his generation.

One hour prior to the performance at 6:30 pm Ovations Offstage offers the pre-performance lecture Considering Nuevo Tango with Professor of Dance Emeritus at Bowdoin College, June Vail, who explores the tango's remarkable malleability across geographical borders and how it has reflected the desires of its practioners for over a century.

Tickets for the Pablo Ziegler Trio are $33 for Ovations' Members, $36 for the general public and a limited amount of $10 student tickets are also available. Support for the Pablo Ziegler Trio performance provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.
