Everywhere at Penobscot Theatre Company are the tell-tale signs that Halloween is nigh! While the spooky contemporary dramedy Doctor Cerberus takes shape on the mainstage, the company's young thespians have turned to a classic source of mystery and horror. Shuddersome: Tales of Poe is the dramatization of some of Edgar Allan Poe's eeriest and most beloved works. The youth production will play at the Bangor Opera House, October 30 at 5 pm, October 31 at 4 pm, and November 1 at 11 am.

"Poe is the master of the macabre," said Director of Education Amy Roeder. "No one does suspense and dark discovery better, and his work resonates with all ages. I would say it's been a joy to watch our young actors engage with his rich language and vivid imagery but truth be told, it's often been terrifying. These little people, who probably still check under their beds at night for monsters, love to turn the tables and scare the bejeebers out of people! They're milking every spine-tingling moment, but keeping it light enough so our youngest patrons will enjoy the show too!"

Edgar Allan Poe's comically haughty half sister, Rosalie, introduces Shuddersome, which is composed of six stories and poems. An ensemble of young actors ranging in age from 6 to 15 brings each of the works to mesmerizing life. Creepy favorites like "The Tell-Tale Heart"and "The Raven" are joined by other Poe classics like "Lionizing" and "The Oval Portrait."

Shuddersome: Tales of Poe is directed by Amy Roeder and resident teaching artist Ben Layman with projection design by Bob Rogers, lighting design by Aaron Noble, sound design by Brandie Larkin, and costume assistance by Delaney Hartley.

Tickets are $8 for students and $12 for adults. Discounted rates are available for groups. To purchase, call (207) 942-3333 or visit www.penobscottheatre.org.
