Now Playing Onstage in Maine - Week of 3/23/2014John Prine in Broadway" border="0" height="100" width="100" align="right"> JOHN PRINE
Collins Center for the Arts
3/29-3/29/2014
With his trademark guitar finger-picking and unmistakable songwriting voice, John Prine continues to mesmerize diverse audiences with his humble poetry, describing often overlooked crannies of everyday life. With immeasurable accolades, including two Grammys and the distinction of being one of the few songwriters honored by the Library of Congress and US Poet Laureate, Prine is more than a musician..he is an American treasure. Now over forty years since his remarkable debut, John Prine has released The Singing Mailman Delivers, a two-disc archival set featuring his earliest studio and live recordings dating back to 1970, one year before his premiere album. These tracks reveal a younger Prine as an honest and unassuming songwriter, writing words on his mail route by day and moonlighting as a folk singer in Chicago clubs at night.

Now Playing Onstage in Maine - Week of 3/23/2014 JUSTON MCKINNEY
Waterville Opera House
3/29-3/29/2014
Juston McKinney returns to the Waterville Opera House with a brand new show! On Mid-Life Support is a blend of more real stories from the rural patrol along with stories of his family and everyday life, always with the flavor of Juston's classic guy who tries and somehow comes up a little short. About Juston: Juston grew up living on the border of New Hampshire and Maine. After earning an associates degree from the very prestigious Southern Maine Community College, he was hired as a deputy sheriff patrolling the same border in which he grew up. But in 1997 Juston turned in his gun and badge and left the dangerous streets of rural Maine and moved to the quiet community of Queens, New York. While living in NYC he worked his way into the weekend line-up at Comic Strip Live, Stand-up New York, Dangerfield's, Gotham, and Caroline's on Broadway. He has had sitcom development deals with Warner Brothers, CBS Productions and Comedy Central. And in 2000 the New York Times called him "destined for stardom." A comedy of manners, without the manners! When little Benjamin whacks his playmate Henry with a stick, breaking two teeth, it is important that the boys' parents set the right example by discussing the matter calmly and reasonably. After all, nothing will be gained by behaving like children. But the thin veneer of civility is stripped away with corrosive wit, revealing the savage underbelly of playground politics. TONY AWARD WINNER! Strong language.
