The wonderful musical comedy, Hello, Dolly! opens Wednesday, August 18  at Berwick's Hackmatack Playhouse. Hello, Dolly! features music by Jerry Herman, based on Thornton Wilder's 1938 farce The Merchant of Yonkers, which Wilder revised and re-titled The Matchmaker in 1955. Hello, Dolly! was first produced on Broadway by David Merrick in 1964, winning 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical. It is considered one of the most enduring musicals having three Broadway revivals and success all over the world.

Hello, Dolly!  is the story of Mrs. Dolly Levi's efforts to marry the well-known Horace Vandergelder. There's matchmaking, train travel from Yonkers to New York City, money mayhem, and an abundance of acting and music stressing the joy of life. Hackmatackers (self-named patrons of Hackmatack Playhouse) will be delighted with the excitement when Dolly is greeted in one of the most famous songs in the history of American musical comedy, Hello, Dolly!

Tickets are expected to go rapidly and there is still time for non-profit organizations to arrange blocks of tickets for fundraising purposes. Michael Guptill of Hackmatack Playhouse said that these fundraising opportunities include sharing the proceeds from ticket sales and can include use of their tent, grounds, and other facilities for a reception, barbeque, or social. Guptill reports, "There is no obligation as far as specific numbers of tickets that are required to be sold and non-profits can raise as much as $3,000 in one night."

Hello, Dolly! runs Wednesday, August 18 through Saturday, August 28th. Post-season, "Cox and Box" and "Bon Appétit" are featured during Hackmatack's annual Labor Day weekend light opera.

Hackmatack Playhouse continues a tradition of affordable ticket prices with student, senior, and group discounts. Tickets and more information are available on-line at www.Hackmatack.org
