Music Theatre Louisville Announces 2010 Summer Season; Kicks off with 1776 6/25

Music Theatre Louisville (MTL) is rolling out the 2010 summer season at The Kentucky Center's Bomhard Theater! We are thrilled to offer quality, affordable, and fun with 3 award winning Broadway productions, 1776, Nunsense, and Annie!

1776, June 25-27, June 29-July 2, 7:30 p.m., July 3, 6:30 p.m.; Matinees, June 27 & July 3, 2:00 p.m.
American history blazes to vivid life in this funny, insightful and unconventional Broadway hit, which The New Times has called "consistently exciting and entertaining". Written by Peter Stone (Bookwriting: Two by Two, The Will Rogers Follies, Screenplays: Sweet Charity, The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3) 1776 follows John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Richard Henry Lee, and Thomas Jefferson as they attempt to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote to free their fledgling nation from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence...if only the founding fathers could agree! 1776 features a memorable score, with songs "Sit Down, John," "Momma Look Sharp," and "Molasses to Rum." Directed by Jon Huffman.

Nunsense, July 16-18, 20-25, 7:30 p.m.; Matinees, July 18 & 24, 2:00 p.m.
Winner of four Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Off Broadway Musical, Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show! Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head, and many others! Featuring star turns, tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz, and comic surprises, this wacky and outrageous show has become an international phenomenon with more than 5000 productions worldwide, translated into 21 languages. Annie, August 6-8, 10-15, 7:00 p.m.; Matinees, August 7 & 8, 14 & 15, 1:30 p.m.
Leapin' Lizards! The popular comic strip heroine, who first appeared in local dailys in 1924, takes center stage in one of the world's best-loved musicals. Little Orphan Annie was introduced by Harold Gray and has run for 86 years...June 13, that comic strip will come to an end. Her popularity soared to iconic status, boasting merchandise, a commemorative stamp, and her own musical! Annie is a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie outwits Miss Hannigan, befriends President Roosevelt, and finds a new family with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and her lovable mutt Sandy. Directed by John Leffert.
