The Lincoln Amphitheatre has announced a commemorative plaque to celebrate its 25th anniversary year.

Individuals and businesses that contribute a minimum of $100 by Friday, April 13 will receive recognition on a special commemorative 25th anniversary plaque to be displayed near the entrance of the amphitheatre.

“This year is very special,” says Dan Wilkinson, executive director for Lincoln Amphitheatre. “Lincoln Amphitheatre is celebrating its 25th anniversary year since it was built and the debut of the new signature musical, A Pioneer Tale by Ken Jones, in June. We are planning a number of special events and exhibits to commemorate this special occasion.”

“I ask for the community to please consider donating to the amphitheatre. Community support has always been a vital part of the success of Lincoln Amphitheatre and will continue to be the key to our success in 2012 and beyond. I was fifteen years old when I attended the opening night of the amphitheatre on June 17, 1987, and remember the excitement and anticipation of that evening. I had no idea that 25 years later I would have the honor of helping to manage and lead this magnificent facility. I urge all friends, neighbors, and supporters of Lincoln Amphitheatre to join me in celebrating this special anniversary and contributing to the next 25 years of Lincoln Amphitheatre,” Wilkinson says.

Built in 1987, Lincoln Amphitheatre opened its first season with the premiere of Billy Edd Wheeler’s Young Abe Lincoln, a musical outdoor drama which ran continuously until 2005. In 2009, the amphitheatre reopened with Ken Jones’ LINCOLN: Upon the Altar of Freedom for two seasons during the Lincoln Bicentennial. Since the conclusion of the 2010 season, Ken Jones has been working on the script for the new presentation of A Pioneer Tale.

Lincoln Amphitheatre’s 2012 season includes four productions: the original play Between Friends, the World Premiere of the signature Lincoln piece A Pioneer Tale, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in partnership with the Evansville Civic Theatre, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, and the second annual Halloween Trail of Terror. The 2012 “Lincoln’s Legacy Lives” fundraising campaign is underway to support the expansion of family-friendly and affordable events at the 1500-seat, covered Lincoln Amphitheatre.

Individual and season tickets to Lincoln Amphitheatre’s 2012 season are currently on sale to the public.
