A volatile young man and ex-soldier must face his demons in the award-winning 9 CIRCLES by Bill Cain. New L.A. theatre company, VAGABOND, produces while Alexis Jacknow directs the show, which runs tonight, Sept. 12 - Oct. 5 at The Sherry Theater in North Hollywood's Arts District.

Based on the true story of Iraq War soldier Steven Dale Green and the 2006 Mahmudiyah killings, 9 CIRCLES follows Private Daniel Reeves on a haunting journey while seeking redemption for crimes he committed during his time in Iraq. Green was the first to be convicted under the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act in 2009 for the rape and killing of a young Iraqi girl and her family. He committed suicide last February. "We are the first production to mount this play since Steven Dale Green committed suicide in prison this year," says Jacknow. "There is a responsibility and gravity that comes along with that that the cast and I want to honor. I hope that 9 CIRCLES will make audiences reflect on how we pass judgment on others, both in our daily lives and as citizens of this country."

The audience is the jury in Reeves' trial and, in the 36-seat Sherry Theater, they will have no choice but to witnesses an acute examination of some of the most complex issues facing our society today.

"We wanted our inaugural show to be something relevant that sparked conversation, but also took people on an amazing journey," explains Executive Director of Production, Alex Hughes. "9 CIRCLES uses a soldier's post-traumatic mind as a lens to explore topics of the post-war health of veterans, capital punishment, and the state of our nation after an unpopular 13-year war."

To pay tribute to soldiers, past and present, VAGABOND will present a special preview of 9 CIRCLES exclusively for veterans and their families on Thursday, September 11th. VAGABOND has worked closely with the USVAA (United States Veterans Artists Alliance) throughout the production and will present talkbacks with American veterans at the Sunday matinee performances.

The cast for 9 CIRCLES includes Jake Green, Lucas Dixon, Skip Pipo, and Margaux Susi. The design and creative team includes Donald Pawloski, scenic design; Season Mustful, costume design; and Meagan McGrory, stage manager.

Tickets start at $15. Discounted tickets are available for $12 for active-duty and retired military personnel.
