Triptych Theatre Company to Bring NOCTURNE to Vs. Theatre This Summer

Triptych Theatre Company will present the Pulitzer Prize nominated and award-winning play, NOCTURNE, written by Adam Rapp, co-directed by James Eckhouse ("Beverly Hills, 90210," "Avengers") and Richard Schiff ("The West Wing"), featuring Jamie Wollrab, Artistic Director of Triptych Theatre.

NOCTURNE will preview on Friday, July 21 at 8pm and opens on Saturday, July 22 at 8pm and runs through Sunday, August 13 as a guest production at Vs. Theatre, 5453 W. Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles.

In this searingly honest journey, a man unwittingly causes the death of his younger sister in a tragic accident and his life is upended. Wracked with remorse he drifts to New York City and slowly puts the pieces of his shattered existence back together. NOCTURNE is the story of one man's journey of redemption in a gut wrenching yet hauntingly lyrical meditation on guilt and grief.

Founded in 2002 by Artistic Director Jamie Wollrab, Triptych Theatre Company was created with the intention to foster creative collaborations between Los Angeles based artists and local non-profit organizations by raising money and awareness. For this year's production of Nocturne part of the proceeds will profit the camp and community based organization, Zeno Mountain Farm.

Comments Jamie Wollrab, "Adam Rapp's Nocturne has stayed with me since it opened in NYC in 2001. I was living in the East Village delving into my craft as an actor in graduate school when my life was considerably altered forever that summer by a severe car accident - in Illinois no less. I became fascinated by how quickly a moment of trauma fractures, opens, explores and then hopefully heals the body and the psyche. Sitting in a hospital bed wondering how a person running a red light; a slightest lapse of judgment can take another's life in their hands. Nocturne has been my way of making art out of this wound - I've found that everyone has come up against a similar moment of their own. Sharing our fear, compassion, pain and love is what ultimately gets us through and helps us reclaim our lives."

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM AND CAST:

Adam Rapp (Playwright) is an award-winning playwright, theatre director, novelist and filmmaker. His plays include Faster, Animals and Plants, Finer Noble Gases, Stone Cold Dead Serious, Blackbird, Gompers, Essential Self-Defense, American Sligo, Bingo with the Indians, Kindness, The Metal Children, The Hallway Trilogy, The Edge of Our Bodies, Dreams of Flying Dreams oFalling and Red Light Winter. His young adult books include The Buffalo Tree (Front Street Books), Under the Wolf, Under the Dog (finalist for the L.A. Times Book Prize), Punkzilla (2010 Michael J. Printz Honor Book) and The Children and the Wolves (named one of the Best Books of 2012 by Kirkus Reviews). His adult novels include The Year of Endless Sorrows and the graphic novel Ball-Peen Hammer, which he is currently developing as a series for HBO. As a filmmaker he wrote and directed the features Winter Passing; Blackbird, which he adapted from his play, and Why Now?! starring Marisa Tomei, Sam Rockwell and Brian Geraghty. His playwriting honors include Boston's Elliot Norton Award, the Helen Merrill Award, the 2006 Princess Grace Statue, a Lucille Lortel Playwright's Fellowship and the Benjamin H. Danks Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. PEN recently honored him with the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award.

James Eckhouse (Co-Director) directed the world premiere of the award winning play, Year of The Rabbit at Ensemble Studio Theatre; The Commission, a controversial drama about the 1963 Warren Commission at the Pasadena Playhouse; and In Heat at the Lost Studio. On TV, he directed episodes of "Beverly Hills 90210" and the award-winning ABC drama, "Once And Again" produced by Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz. James' thirty-five year career as an actor includes dozens of performances On and Off-Broadway as well as at many of the country's regional theaters. Most recently he starred opposite Bryan Cranston in the Tony award-winning hit, All The Way. He stars in the PBS drama, "Murder of a President" and as arch villain Doctor Knotts in the new Warner Brothers web series, "High and Mighty," premiering this August. He is best known to TV audiences as 'Jim Walsh' on FOX's original series, "Beverly Hills 90210." James began his training at Chicago's Second City and went on to receive a BFA in Drama at the Juilliard School in NYC.

Richard Schiff (Co-Director) is an American actor and comedian. He is best known for playing Toby Ziegler on The West Wing, a role for which he received an Emmy Award. Schiff made his television directorial debut with The West Wing, directing an episode entitled "Talking Points." Schiff has directed several off-Broadway plays and starred in productions in London's West End as well as the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington D.C. Schiff's film and television credits span over 30 years including some noteable roles in; The Lost World: Jurassic Park, CBS's NCIS, House of Lies, Innocent, Once Upon A Time, Chasing The Hill, Man of Steel, HBO's Ballers. Schiff is in pre-production for upcoming projects; Asher, Vandal and Shock and Awe.

JAMIE WOLLRAB (Son) is a director, actor, producer, and coach throughout Los Angeles. Professionally he has founded two theatre companies that have collectively produced over 50 plays. He recently produced, directed and acted in John Patrick Shanley's premiere of The French Waitress at the Electric Lodge in Venice. Other credits include: The Hudson Theatre, IAMA Theatre, and the west coast premiere of Super Sunday. Other LA credits include: The Glass Menagerie, Gruesome Playground Injuries, Geography of a Horse Dreamer, Feeding the Monkey in Hollywood, Two Rooms and The Mistakes Madeline Made. In 2011, he produced the feature film "Leave," with Bryan Cranston. He directed the short film "Sunder" and music videos for "Hot As Sun" and "Dead Mans Bones" (Ryan Gosling). Jamie is currently coaching several hit television shows and films. He holds an MFA in acting from Rutgers University and he has been Head of the Voice & Movement Department at Warner Loughlin Studios. He is a member of IAMA Theatre company and is The Artistic Director of Triptych Theatre Company.

NOCTURNE features an award-winning design team. The Scenic Design is by David Mauer. The Lighting Design is by Justin Huen. The Sound Design is by Veronica Mullins. The Production Stage Manager is Tommy Dunn.
