On Tax Day, ARTISTS RISE UP LOS ANGELES presents an evening of comedy, TRANSPARENCY, TAXES & TWEETS, with Trae Crowder ("The Liberal Redneck") as headliner, benefiting the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Written and performed by a diverse group of artists, TRANSPARENCY, TAXES & TWEETS is an all-comedy evening of songs and stand-up, inspired by today's political circus.

Performance Highlights will include:

- Headliner Trae Crowder, comedian and co-writer of "The Liberal Redneck Manifesto: Draggin' Dixie Outta the Dark," who recently appeared on "The View" and "Real Time with Bill Maher"

- The "Naughty Muslim" Mona Shaikh, the first Pakistani female comedian to be selected for The Laugh Factory's "Funniest Person in the World" Competition and the first female Pakistani headliner at the Hollywood Improv

= The Billionaires, a group of musicians who sing satirical songs from the point of view of the 1% of the 1% who "own and control the political system;" their album, "Favorable Business Climate" comes out later this spring

- The evening will also feature stand-up comedians Will Vought, Paul Elia and others

- The post-performance courtyard reception will include live bluegrass music, food and beverages

All proceeds from the one night performance will go to the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education and other forms of advocacy, the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality.

Representatives from SPLC will be present to facilitate, educate and empower people to contribute their time, talents or funds if desired.

ARTISTS RISE UP LOS ANGELES, the brainchild of director and executive producer Sue Hamilton, (in collaboration with ARTISTSRISE UP NEW YORK and it's leader, Jessica Litwak), was born as a result of the outcome of the 2016 U.S. presidential election: "ARULA speaks to the need to create positive, social and revolutionary change by being who we are and doing what we DO," shares Sue Hamilton.

Though less than six months old, ARULA already boasts over one hundred and fifty members and continues to grow each day. It is made up of diverse members of the creative community, representing actors, directors, writers, filmmakers, singers and dancers, spoken word artists, photographers and others, all of whom have come together to RISE UP.

WE WILL NOT BE SILENT. WE WILL USE OUR UNIQUE ARTISTIC VOICES TO BRING SOCIAL JUSTICE AND POSITIVE CHANGE TO THE WORLD.

Comments ARULA executive producer, Sue Hamilton, "Art has the power to expose us to perspectives we might never have previously considered, and in the current political climate, many feel helpless and even hopeless. We hope that through our art we can encourage not only understanding but activism. ARULA aims to inspire all who wish to be proactively involved the ability to RISE UP, get involved in social change, and unite our community through creativity."

We are a group of artists committed to positive and revolutionary change in response to the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Using our unique and diverse artistic voices, ARULA is presenting an evening of comedy, TRANPARENCY, TAXES & TWEETS, with Trae Crowder ("The Liberal Redneck") as headliner, benefiting the Southern Poverty Law Center.

In addition to ARULA, groups have also formed in New York (ARUNY) and Chicago (ARUCHI), all participating in a national dialogue to use theatre to process the diverse range of emotions after the recent U.S. election.

ARULA's inaugural production, E PLURIBUS UNUM: OUT OF MANY, ONE was a collection of short plays and scenes, music, dance, spoken word, multi-media presentations, as well as art and photography installations. It played to a sold-out crowd on January 31, 2017 at the El Portal Theatre, and was featured on the cover of the LA Times Calendar section, spawning nationwide interest and activation.
