Pancake Court sounds like a friendly place to grow up. It's the home neighborhood for Ivy and Bean, the two best friends from Annie Barrows' popular book series "Ivy and Bean."

Now, the two girls take center stage in Ivy+Bean: The Musical, adapted by Scott Elmegreen and coming to South Coast Repertory Nov. 8-24. Tickets are available online at www.scr.org for this Theatre for Young Audiences production on the Julianne Argyros Stage.

Book author Barrows has had runaway success with the two loveable, but very different lead characters.

"Bean is loud and wild and goofy," said Barrows. "She loves to be involved in games and poke her nose in other people's business. Ivy is quiet and full of ideas. She spends most of her time learning how to be a witch. Each girl thinks the other one is weird. Each girl thinks she could never be friends with the other." The musical stays true to the girls' spunk and friendship.

Marya Mazor directs this new musical adaptation, whose cast includes Melody Butiu, Dylan DoVale, Emily Eiden, William Martinez, Elia Saldana and Sammy Smith.

The design and creative team includes Ann Sheffield, scenic design; Angela Balogh Calin, costume design; Brian Gale, lighting design; Alby Potts, musical director; Jeff Polunas, sound design; Josh Marchesi, production manager; and Kathryn Davies, stage manager.

Ivy+Bean: The Musical is generously supported by Honorary Corporate Producer Emulex.
