Skylight Theatre Company in Association with Art Division Present Benefit to Feed L.A.'s Hungry for Thanksgiving Day

Sharon Lawrence (three Primetime EMMY noms - Outstanding Supporting Actress in NYPD Blue) hosts ALIMENTO for Skylight Theatre Company in association with Art Division. Six World Premiere One-Acts will be read at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, Shatto Chapel, on Sunday, November 6th at 5pm.

Alimento actors include Wanda-Lee Evans, Karole Foreman, Marlon Sanders, Sarah Yarkin, and more, each piece is approximately 10 minutes. Helmed by noted director/choreographer Cate Caplin, with musical interludes by Ken Luey, the event with benefit the hungry in Los Angeles on Thanksgiving Day.

In addition to the readings, the art exhibition includes works by Javier Carillo, Frank Gehry, David Hockney, Dan McCleary, John Nava, Ed Ruscha, and Wayne Theibaud.

New plays include Destination Thanksgiving by Wendy Kout, Grave Escape by Dave Trudell, Once A Brother by Meredith Besser, Shot at Midnight by David Myers, Potato and the Wax by Chelsea Sutton, and The Third Day by Penelope Lowder.

"The idea of giving back to the community during the holiday season, while doing the work that I love, is the absolute best of both worlds," says Cate Caplin, who will be directing. "Collaborating with some of L.A.'s top actors, and fellow artists from the Skylight Theatre adds another element of excitement!"

Director Cate Caplin has produced, directed and choreographed over 200 productions. Her work has been seen on television, in films and music videos, commercials and in theatrical venues world wide from the Paris Opera House to the Broadway Stage. Cate is a multiple award winning Director and Choreographer, a World Champion Theatrical Ballroom Dancer and she is a current member of the Actor's Studio Director's Unit.

Tony Abatemarco, Interim Artistic Director of the Skylight Theatre Company, will curate Alimento. Among his awards: Ovation (Lead Performance), LA Weekly (multiple), two NEA Directing Fellowships. Tony is a three time Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle nominee (Lead Performance). Member: Antaeus & Rogue Machine. Director: Regional & Broadway (Julie Harris in Lucifer's Child) & London West End (Robyn Peterson in Catwalk Confidential). His on camera work totals 63 appearances, most recently in How To Get Away With Murder. Film: Beverly Hills Ninja 2, Sleeping with the Enemy, and more. He is an instructor at USC and SMC Emeritus College. As playwright, Tony has won the LA Weekly and DramaLogue Awards. His most recent plays include Forever House and Beautified, both world premieres at Skylight Theatre.

Ken Luey returns for his third year to support Skylight Theater Company's "Alimento." Ken is a Los Angeles musician who has played saxophones, clarinets and flutes in dance bands, symphonic and pit orchestras, rock and pop groups, jazz ensembles, and marching bands for decades.

Skylight Theatre Company discovers, develops and produces new, exhilarating works that expand mainstream theatre while nurturing and educating the people who create them. A recipient of the prestigious Steinberg National Theatre Critics Citation (Dontrell, Who Kissed The Sea - Nathan Alan Davis), Skylight's resident PlayLab writers have been recognized with productions nationwide, a national 2014 USA Ford Fellowship in Theater and Performance (Sigrid Gilmer), and locally as a winner in the 2015 Humanitas/CTG Playwriting Prize (Louisa Hill). Skylight won 4 Ovation Awards in 2014 for The Wrong Man and Pray To Ball (the most of any intimate theatre in LA). LA Weekly included the Skylight's productions of Years To The Day, Open House and Sexsting on their Top Ten list of plays for 2013. Skylight's first year as a company dedicated to developing new plays was 2011; their production of Hermetically Sealed made the LA Times annual list of Top Ten Plays, and Mad Women moved from Los Angeles to La MaMa in New York. Since then, plays developed by Skylight have been performed in Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., Oregon, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Kansas City, and internationally in Scotland and France. Art Division is a non-profit organization dedicated to training and supporting underserved youth who are committed to studying the visual arts. Providing in-depth services to young adults aged 18-25 in the Rampart District of Los Angeles, an at-risk population within one of Los Angeles' most densely populated and underserved communities.
