Ryan O'Connor and Musical Mondays Los Angeles have announced that in solidarity with the Pro99 movement to spread the word to VOTE NO on the Actors Equity proposal for 99-seat theatre in Los Angeles, a special event will be held at Musical Mondays on April 6th at 9 PM.

A statement from Team Pro99:

"Our labor union has issued a proposal, that Los Angeles AEA members are being asked to vote on, that could make it almost impossible for many of its members to perform on stage in this city anymore.

"Scores of beloved theaters (that are 99 seats or less) would be forced to double or triple their budgets overnight in order to give actors a drastic pay raise. Tiny theaters on micro-budgets would be hard-pressed to meet such a sudden new requirement.

"Many would likely either have to stop using union members, severely curtail doing the kind of artistic work they set out to do, or fold entirely.

"There are no greedy, cigar-chomping profiteers in LA 99-seat theater. We, the actors who do these shows, are not being exploited. We have chosen in the past to work for tiny stipends in order to be seen; to hone our craft; and to honor the unique chemistry of necessity and love that drives any artist.

"To shut down this avenue of expression is to dishonor an artist's need to make their art, and a great city's need to incubate great theater. Our position is very simple: We want change, but not this change. We have asked our union for a proposal that would base actor compensation on a theater's budget size, or other common-sense metrics; to our dismay, they came back with a one-size-fits-all proposal that would likely devastate the vast majority of under- resourced small theaters in this city.

"We urge you to use your own common sense, and to LEARN MORE here at ilove99.org.

"And we urge AEA members to vote NO between March 25 and April 17.

"Then let's bring our union back to the table to listen-really listen-to our very substantive ideas for real change: Change that will serve LA theater actors and the theater-going community at large."
