Rogue Machine Stages DYING CITY, Now thru 7/8

Rogue Machine presents Los Angeles Premiere of DYING CITY by Christopher Shinn, opening tonight, May 18, 2013 with reception to follow. The production runs 5pm Saturdays, 7pm Sundays, and 8pm Mondays through July 8, 2013, with Memorial weekend performances on May 23rd at 8pm and Sunday, May 26th at 7pm (No performance on June 24th).

Winning upwards of 50 awards (including Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, LA Weekly, Ovation, and Garland Awards) in just the past five years (BEST PRODUCTION two years in a row), Rogue Machine returns to kick off their 2013 season with the Los Angeles premiere of Dying City by Christopher Shinn (OBIE winner, Pulitzer Prize finalist) .

A psychological showdown of wits when, unannounced, Peter shows up at his sister-in-law's apartment. Having not spoken since the funeral of her husband, Peter's twin brother, the two now face-off as more questions surrounding the suspicious death resurface through flashbacks and old letters. A transfixing and intimate play from a Pulitzer Prize finalist.

Christopher Shinn (Playwright) won an OBIE Award for Playwriting and a Guggenheim Fellowshipin Playwriting. He was a Pulitzer Prize finalist, shortlisted for the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play, nominated for an Olivier Award for Most Promising Playwright, won the Lucille Lortel Award forOutstanding Play and was the recipient of a Robert Chesley Award for Lesbian and Gay Playwriting,among numerous other awards. Shinn's plays have premiered at The Royal Court Theatre, Lincoln Center, Manhattan Theatre Club, Playwrights Horizons, and South Coast Repertory. His adaptation of Hedda Gabler for the Roundabout (American Airlines Theatre) premiered on Broadway in 2009.

MICHAEL PERETZIAN (Director) has helmed numerous productions including the Mark Taper West Coast premiere of Jane Martin's Talking With and Truman Capote's One Christmas and A Christmas Memory staged reading, broadcast for many years on KCRW and subsequently re-staged at Pacific Resident Theatre. For his work with Theatre 40 Hugh Leonard's A Life, Michael received a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Direction. He directed the world premiere of Alex Dinelaris' Red Dog Howls starring Kathleen Chalfant, his production of Harold Pinter's No Man's Land at the Odyssey Ensemble was nominated as one of the Best Productions of 2009 by the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle.

DYING CITY opens May 18th and runs 5pm Saturdays, 7pm Sundays, and 8pm Mondays through July 8, 2013 (Memorial weekend schedule on Thursday, May 23rd at 8pm and Sunday, May 26th at 7pm only. John PerriN FLYNN (Artistic Director/Producer) is Rogue Machine's founding Artistic Director and has produced all 22 of the main stage productions. He directed last year's productions of The New Electric Ballroom by Enda Walsh, Three Views Of The Same Object by Henry Murray, and A Bright New Boise by Samuel D. Hunter (all-LA Times CRITIC'S CHOICE). He received the LA Weekly Career Achievement Award in 2012. John directed the critically acclaimed Los Angeles premiere of The Sunset Limited, (CRITIC'S CHOICE-LA Times; GO - LA Weekly, CRITIC'S PICK-Backstage, Ovation RECOMMENDED) which ran for six months. He directed the award winning World Premiere of Henry Murray's TREEFALL (published by the Dramatist Play Service in 2010) as well as the critically acclaimed Los Angeles premiere of Rogue Machine's inaugural production, COMPLEAT FEMALE STAGE BEAUTY, by Jeffrey Hatcher. John was the Executive Producer and director of Lifetime's long running award winning series STRONG MEDICINE, has produced two other series and 14 television movies or miniseries including the Emmy nominated BURDEN OF PROOF.

ELINA de SANTOS (Producer/Co-Artistic Director) is a multi-award winning director with numerous credits as a Producer. Selected directing credits include New Jerusalem and Broken Glass for West Coast Jewish Theatre, and Vincent in Brixton for the Pasadena Playhouse starring Stephanie Zimbalist. At the Odyssey Theatre: multi-award winning productions include the LA Premiere of David Mamet's Speed the Plow, Clifford Odets' Awake & Sing! and Arthur Miller's All My Sons. For Pacific Resident Theatre: Odets' Rocket to the Moon (LADCC direction nominee), Orpheus Descending (LADCC Awards for performance, direction and production) and the LA premiere of Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance. Ark Theatre: A Doll's House by Henrick Ibsen (LA Weekly Best Direction), production and ensemble nominees.

Laura Hill (Managing Director/Producer) has been Rogue Machine's Managing Director since 2012. Previously, she has worked with the award winning Deaf West Theatre in many capacities including Managing Director, where she produced many of their critically acclaimed main stage and children's touring productions. Laura has worked as Company Manager for Center Theatre Group and for the Pasadena Playhouse. She was Managing Director at Antaeus Theatre Company and has produced and consulted with other Los Angeles-based theaters including Ensemble Studio Theatre/LA, the Fountain Theatre and CRE Outreach.

ENSEMBLE:

Burt Grinstead (Peter/Craig) was recently nominated for the LA Weekly Leading Male Performance Award, acknowledging his work as Clifford Anderson in Deathtrap(L.A. Gay and Lesbian Theatre). Previously he was recognized in Los Angeles for his role as Gerd in Esther's Moustache.Selected stage credits include the roles of Will in The Girl in the Park, Mitch in Physical, Albert Feather in Ladies in Retirement(Off-Broadway), Paul Hornung in Lombardi, Kent in reasons to be pretty, and Mark Antony in Julius Ceasar (Regional). Film and TV credits include: The Fence, Abigail, Malibu Country(ABC), Criminal Minds (CBS), and "Don't Trust the B----- in Apartment 23" (ABC).

LAURIE OKIN (Kelly) has been a regular performer with the Groundlings, as well as Comedy Sportz in New York. She has starred in numerous productions including Edward Allen Baker's Lila on the Wall (59E59 Theater in NYC, McCadden Place Theater in LA, and Edinburgh Fringe Festival), and Clay MacLeod Chapman's Nested Doll (Kraine Theater, NYC). Laurie performed in the world premiere of Catherine Butterfield's Brownstone at the Laguna Playhouse; The Widow's Blind Date at Gloucester Stage Company;Suzan Lori Parks' 365 Plays in 365 Days at The Public Theater; Proof at the Sierra Madre Playhouse and the world premiere of Charles Forbes' The Humidity of Fish at the Stella Adler Theater. Film and TV credits include work with director Michael Cuesta (Homeland) on a short film for Lexus, as well as in the features Why George? and Teacher of the Year (opposite Keegan Michael Key). She guest starred on The Office, was a series regular on PBS' Copshop (opposite Richard Dreyfus, Rosie Perez, and Rita Moreno), appeared in numerous sketches on Late Night With Conan O'Brien, Friends, Samantha Who?, The Man Show, Earth 2 (NBC), Deadly Games (Paramount Pictures), and in the pilot The Dave Sheridan Show.

DESIGNERS:

Tom Buderwitz (Scenic Design) has designed for South Coast Repertory, Center Theatre Group, Pasadena Playhouse, Geffen Playhouse, Portland Center Stage, Denver Center Theatre Laguna Playhouse, San Diego Repertory, Reprise Theatre Company, The Antaeus Company, The Theatre @ Boston Court, Deaf West Theatre, A Noise Within among many others. He has been honored with 4 Ovation Awards and 3 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards, including the 2005 Career Achievement Award for Scenic Design. For Television, Tom has designed for every major broadcast and cable network. He has been recognized with 3 Emmy Award nominations and an Art Director's Guild Awardnomination.

Leigh Allen (Lighting Design) is a recipient of the Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award for Career Achievement in Lighting Design. Accolades include: the Garland Award forCousin Bette, the LA Weekly Award for Treefall, Ovation/ Production of the Year for Killer Joe, GLAAD Award for Like A dog on Linoleum, Macy Award for The Secret Garden, and theLADCC and LA Weekly awards for Johnny Got His Gun. She has designed for Princess and Regent Cruise Lines, Opera Santa Barbara, Musical Theater West, South Bay Civic Light Opera, Deaf West, Anteaus, South Coast Repertory, and many more.

CHRISTOPHER MOSCATIELLO (Sound Designer) is an Ovation Award nominated sound designer, composer, music editor and music director for theater, television and film. Recent TV credits include The Walking Dead (AMC), Eureka (Syfy), Human Target (Fox), The Cape (NBC), CAPRICA (Syfy), Trauma(NBC), and he has scored full series, specials and promos for National Geographic, The Discovery Channel, HBO, BBC and others. Theater credits include The Kennedy Center, Pacific Resident Theatre, The Road Theatre, The Odyssey Theatre, and he served as cover conductor on the national tour of The Phantom Of The Opera. Chris was the Associate Artistic Director and Conductor of the Boston Chamber Ensemble, and during that period, wrote a ballet commissioned by the Kirov Ballet Academy (premiered Washington, DC).

DIANNE K. GRAEBNER (Costume Designer) designed The New Electric Ballroom for Rogue Machine. For the Colony Theatre she did Falling for Make Believe, I'll Be Back Before Midnight, Shooting Star and Jaques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. At Circle X Theatre she designed The Brothers Karamazov (Ovation nomination), Eurydice, The Flu Season, Battle Hymn (LA Weekly Award nomination), Lascivious Something and The Good Book of Pedantry and Wonder, and The Chinese Massacre (at the new space in Atwater Village). Other credits include Clay and Dogeaters at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, 365 Days/365 Plays (Center Theatre Group), Children of a Lesser God and A Streetcar Named Desire (Deaf West Theatre), The Shaggs- Philosophy of the World (Inside the Ford), and The Sequence at Boston Court Theatre. Topdog Underdog at the Lillian, and Golden Prospects at the Powerhouse Theatre are amongst her favorites. Film credits: Til Death Do Them Part and Black-eyed Sue.
