Carol Channing's 1970 Buick Electra will be up for auction at McCormick's Palm Springs Collector Car Auction, that stated today and goes through Sunday in the Spa Resort Casino parking lot. The Buick will take center stage along with a 1965 Mercedes 220 Cabrio used in the movie "Hangover." Carol says she plans to attend the auction.

From 7,000 to 8,000 people pass through the gates each day during the three-day auction., which began today. Now in its 27th year, auction sales have approached $6 million at recent events. That generates more sales tax revenue for the city of Palm Springs than the International Film Festival, Modernism Week, Tour de Palm Springs and the White Party combined, according to McCormick.

A New York film crew is scheduled to film a TV documentary during the three-day auction when more than 500 collectable cars, trucks and motorcycles will be up for sale.

The auction is free and open to the public starting at 3 p.m. today. It continues on Saturday and Sunday, with tickets selling for $15 for one day or $25 for two days. The auction will stream live via the Internet for three days and people who register in advance may bid for cars by phone.
