John Stark Productions presents Me Myself And I, by Himself, a visiting guest production at the Odyssey Theatre opening Sunday, October 13, 2013, for a limited engagement.
ME, MYSELF AND I, BY HIMSELF - An autobiographical one man show that includes classical American folk songs which he performs as he recounts his life going back to the Little Village of Rossland, British Columbia, where he was born and grew up. Produced, directed, written and starring John Stark as In Cognito.
John Stark (Writer. Producer, Director, Actor) began his professional career in Vancouver in the mid sixties with the founding of his own company, the Canadian Art Theatre. His first production was The Iceman Cometh by Eugene O'Neill, which garnered him national recognition. As an actor, his first major success was An Evening with Stephen Leacock, a one-man-show which he performed in Canada, England and the U.S., including Carnegie Recital Hall and the National Arts Center in Ottawa, where it was recorded by RCA. A television version followed, and it has been aired on CBC, PBS, Channel 4 London, and other major international networks.
As a director, Mr. Stark has staged over 40 productions internationally. His most recent play was the Odyssey Theatre and off-Broadway staging of Chekhov & Maria, by Jovanka Bach, which is now a major motion picture, directed by Eric Till. The production is a memorial tribute to his wife Jovanka, who died in 2006, after a lengthy battle with cancer. It is currently airing on Super Channel Canada, Russian TV, and PBS. Other successfully staged plays by Jovanka Bach include Sylvie, Mercy Warren's Tea and the Balkan Trilogy, which received positive reviews in the New York Times. Nightsong for the Boatman by Jovanka Bach, successfully played off Broadway at the Barrow Group Theatre, last year.
Mr. Stark's translation and adaptation of Miroslav Krleza's Family Glembay trilogy, is the first English version of this acclaimed Croation playwright and novelist's work. In Agony and Family Glembay have been staged by Stark off-Broadway, in Canada, and Los Angeles. He has also adapted Leacock's story The Great Election, and staged it as a musical at the Odyssey Theatre recently, as well as his play Tom, Dick and Harry Meet Mary, which premiered in 2012.
Just published are his novels, "Sons of Freedom" and "Death of Angelique Vitry." Johnny Canuck, a one-man-musical show by Jovanka Bach, starring John DeYoung premiered at the University of New Mexico last year, followed by a successful national tour across Canada.
ME, MYSELF AND I, BY HIMSELF opens Sunday, October 13 at 7:00 P.M. Regular performances are Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8:00 P.M. and Sundays at 7:00 P.M. through Wednesday, October 30, 2013.
